TIRES/WHEEL QUESTION

Hey guys, this might be a stupid question but can my OEM GR Supra 3.0 19in wheels fit a staggered 255/35/19 tire setup? Looking to get winters and throw them on the OEM wheels. Pretty sure the OEM setup is 255/35/19 275/35/19 PS4s.

It may depend a bit on the tire you are looking at. Most tires will have a range of Rim Widths they support. The OE rear wheels are 10-inches wide, which is usually on the larger side of what a 255-width tire will support, but I looked up some random 255-width tires on Tire Rack (image below) and they do support a 10-inch rim width. So basically, check the specs of the tire you are considering.

Since the rear wheels are 1-inch wider than the fronts, running a square 255-width setup may result in a slightly different appearance front-to-back as the rears will be stretched a bit more on the wheel possibly resulting in a different sidewall appearance.

I went with All-Seasons for the cold months. I work from home and have no need to actually get anywhere if it snows, but want to be able to safely drive on the many cold-but-sunny days in a Denver-Metro winter. (our other car is a VW SUV and much better for snow, we have Nokian All-Weathers on that for winter)

I got a set of Supra 2.0 18-inch wheels (for the extra sidewall and low-cost) and installed Continental ExtremeContact DWS06+ All-Season tires. I just did a 2000-mile road trip on them two weeks ago and they were quite comfortable, so much so that I ordered a set of 18-inch Apex wheels to be my new summer wheels. I'll be selling the OE 19's in the Spring.

I have the same tires (Conti DWS06+) as the "summer" tires on our SUV and got to try them in an unexpected 6-inch snow up in the mountains this past October, they did far better than I expected. (and yes, I was kicking myself for not putting the all-weathers on before a mountain trip)

Have you actually found any winter tires that are available? I ended up with all seasons because I could not find any.

Interestingly Toyota sells a wheel specifically for Winter tires. It is a 17-inch wheel intended for a square 225/50R17 98H tire setup. I haven't looked, but I would guess plenty of winter options in that size, though such skinny tires may will look funny. There is even an option in the TPMS settings to select this size.

Part number for the 17-inch Winter Wheel is: 42611-WAA05, it's specs are: 7.5Jx17 ET24

I’m making mistakes as I go, and my first one was buying this car. The second was not selling it, and the third is to keep spending all of my money on it. So here are my blunders so far.

I had to use the stock rims. So I was able to order online a set of Alpine 5’s, off of blackcircles.ca however instead of squaring them with greater sidewall, I got the same set up as my summer’s, 275/35, 255/35.

I went to a local shop instead of the dealership to change them. The TPMS thinks my winters should be 255/40/18 or something like that, so they are stuck on other till I switch back to the stock wheels. Might change those.

Bonus: there was a fresh snowfall yesterday and I was able to do some driving in it and donuts for the first time because, again tires=$$$$, anyway the responsiveness and the “you have to try to mess it up”ness of the car makes it great in slick conditions to me. However, once snow/slush builds up on the passenger side front facing sensor under the nose of the bumper? No more cruise control, frontal collision warning, pedestrian collision warning or parking sensors will work till it’s been cleared off. Not that in the conditions of which it happened you would or should be relying on any of those systems, but when arriving home and parking in the garage, it does present as a necessary evil to get out and clean it off beforehand. It’s also disconcerting to see flashing warning signs about malfunctions while driving on the highway with adverse conditions and crazy drivers already weighing on me. Still, no matter how cold outside, the cabin is always super comfortable and driving without gloves is comfy. Tux Mats were absolutely worth me not worrying about the floor whatsoever, except for by the accelerator. I got suckered into the ERI module by the dealership, plus the frame is made of aluminum not steel so Rust shouldn’t be an issue anyway, but still. We will see what happens. Going to get a microfibre wand and just dry wipe it off regularly so it doesn’t build up anywhere and it should be alright between washes. At one point driving home I could see the highway opening up because of how cautious everyone was being but I couldn’t have had more confidence accelerating into that open space. I’ve been looking forward to winter so I can live this existence people seem to think a car like this can’t handle thrive and survive through. I beg to differ. The gas might be the only thing that eventually kills the dream, but it’s also ironically what might prolong it since I just try to drive less and enjoy more lol

*Parts* of the frame are aluminum. The whole front cradle is but the rest is normal steel.

You have the same size front brakes all the 3.0L's have, as they are all the same.

I have not, but seeing how close they are on 18's leads me to believe 17's wouldn't work. A lot of the drag race guys go to 2.0L brakes. Most people go 17 in rear and 18 in front.

After doing a quick search, I see that the 17" wheels offered by Titan fit over the 3.0L brakes. Just keep in mind, not all wheels might fit. Very much depends on the barrel design.

And here are the Toyota 17" wheels on the 2.0L. Looks very tight. I would try and see if you can get your hands on one to measure the inside barrel.
