Are you able to divulge on the planned total units of GRMN Supras?

My biggest concern with waiting for the GRMN model is that it might be produced in an extremely limited quantity like the other GRMN vehicles (i.e. GRMN Toyota 86 = 100 units, GRMN Yaris = 500 units, etc.).

Have you owned one? I did for 2.5 years and couldn't wait to get out of it! Granted most of the problems were related to the ECU and transmission, and not the engine, but that's my point. Toyota took what should have been a decent platform, gave it a chassis that was already ponderous handling wise, and then completely neutered it between throttle response and gearing. Great stereo and decent trunk space - so I guess there's that going for it - it's why you pay $75K+ for a "sports car" right?

Granted they fixed some of that with the "Track Edition" release... but now you're in another price bracket. It's certainly better than driving all the rest of the Lexus line, but it was a pale shadow of what it could have been had it not weighed over 2 tons and been a 3-car frankenstein chassis. Compared to even the 2020 MKV it's a bit weak... hell, compared to my G37S it felt a bit weak (not in acceleration but in handling and overall livability).

What I will hand to them easily was the engine sound - that V8 was heavenly over 4K... almost made you forget that a Mustang or Camaro was faster for half the price. If it weren't for the fact that the first year depreciation was close to $35K I'd be much more bitter... I only paid $50K for mine... the original owner paid just over $80K! They got every option including the cold weather package - then dumped it after 10 months and 12K miles.

Not a big fan of the Lexus “F” cars to be honest. I’ve driven a few, and they feel “too digital” for me. You feel disconnected from the car. They are fast, but the pedal response seems slightly off. Most will argue that is the nature of DBW, but I don’t notice this with other DBW cars....most notably the R35. Just what I have noticed, not sure if anyone else has noticed this.

Yep that was my take as well.. regardless of mode it was somewhat lifeless... until it hit the "magic spot" - then tons of power (somewhat unexpectedly IMO). Drive mode would change where the magic spot was located... but it still was more like a switch and less like a smooth analog control. In my Infiniti it was very subtle and almost indistinguishable from a mechanical connection.

The amount of lifeless in the normal drive mode made it completely unusable - in fact, once I switched to Sport mode 24/7 I started getting much better gas mileage - however, driving in manual Sport+ mode for a month had me down in the 13mpg range - and that was mostly highway driving. It sure did sound great though.

Still have no idea why there even was an ECO mode on it... no matter how you drove you weren't gonna get more than 19mpg out of that thing.

1-APRACING brakes
2-NITRON/KW suspension ( just waiting the 3 way to be released )
3-AMS down pipe + tune
4-still looking for cat back exhaust didn't decide which brand ill go with it.
5- cusco brace already on it.

But after the "2021" news !! I don't know if I should just wait until the 2021 supra release and trade in my 2020 for it.

-is it a new engine ? or only new pistons !
-47hp comes from ? ( tune and the exhaust adjustment ) ?


I called the dealer and I asked them about the changes ,price, and if I am planning to trade my 2020. the answer was we don't have any information regarding the 2021 so we cant answer you Q, we will provide you all the info once we have them!

I don't know what to do ! should I go and start working on my 2020 or trade it for the 2021 !

I have never seen a brand new production car change so significantly the following year. This is nuts!!!! I can understand the decals on the calipers and minor stuff but not a 50hp+ and a different motor all together!!! Holly crap!!

Really? Have you followed the GTR? How about numerous BMW’s like the current M2, which came out with the N55 motor, then switched to the S55. Or the M5, and the following year, the comp pack with more power, and other upgrades. Even porsche, when the GT3’s first came out with the 3.8 even in RS form and the following year got the brand new 4.0. Nothing new, manufacturers have been doing this for a long time especially German manufacturers.

Regarding the power bump...

The Toyota bean counters won at the end of the day. Obviously Toyota knew the power bump would piss off a lot of the early adopters, but Toyota also knew the MY20 335HP was overpriced given its price point. Just look at the Supras sitting in showrooms for 3-4k off.

Normally these power bumps would occur 3-5 years after the initial launch, but Toyota predicted that Supra sales would continue to decline if they didn't either a) decrease the price or b) increase the power. The easiest/cost effective way was to increase power. A possible third option if you could go back in time is to start the MY20 Supra at 45k and increase it by $500 each year or something like that.

Toyota's biggest mistake? They should have brought the car with 385HP at the initial launch. Not sure why they didn't? If I had to guess, time constraints and push to get the car out for a MY20 launch. This power bump fiasco is a short term loss for Toyota, but is a long term win for the overall company.

This was planned way a head of the 2020 model release, insiders from bmw have been saying this before the release of the 2020 model. So, in ways nothing to do with sales of the first year model, this was already planned and some of the guys warned people not to buy the first year model.

Indeed. Furthermore the Supra is reliant on BMW's supply chain but will be subject to a delay in receiving the latest hardware. Expect delightful surprises and head scratching updates over the coming years.

The GTR was truly just a tune change and later a turbo inlet, the motor remained the same even now. That kinda job can be done in 1 hour in a garage. I cant speak on the other cars.

It should be fairly limited given that even the A91 edition is limited to 1000 units. I'd put my estimate at 1-300 cars personally, but I haven't seen or heard a figure on that end yet (likely not even out of discussions).

From what A70 has said before... somewhere between $85k-$95k MSRP?? And that is before the inevitable insane dealer markups which will surely bump the price well into six figures.

Or maybe it really will cost six figures to start with? Only Toyota bean counters, Akio and Tada know for sure at this point.

You are correct. To elaborate, the GTR did change a lot and updated every year, whether minor engine mods, to suspension , steering, lots of cosmetics, and even at one point, the whole interior was revised, and that’s not saying the pricing increases every year. (69k when released, now over 100k) The nismo one is almost 200k and just a year or two ago, it was around 155-160k ish.

I’m not 100 percent sure, but that’s a big deal in terms of how japanese car manufacturers go. Not as common, could be wrong though.

l love the GTR, and want to see an r36, but the way nissan is at the moment, not sure we ever will anytime soon.

Hopefully this will be 1-300 cars (or whatever the final figure will be) *per year* and not just that number in total.

The A91 Edition seems to be a one-year-only special though? I hope that once introduced the GRMN Supra will be available every year until MKV production finally ceases.
