The dealers should have your oil in stock . I know we carry it. It has it's own special bottle lol I put some to the side for me. :)
can you post a picture of what the bottle looks like?

Does this mean with 'Toyota Care' our first oil changes are free? Or is it still charged by them? I changed it myself at 500 miles... but would consider the dealer at 3K if it were free and documented that way. Although I'm Auto-xing the car... so immediately switched to Mobil 1 0w40 Euro formula.

Best regards,
Dave
I know there are discussions about oil changes all over the internet, but I'm curious why you need to change the oil out so early? Contaminants in the oil? Doesn't the oil filter catch stuff like that?

5L bottle.

Oil filters are BMW with a Toyota part number sticker on the box along with a “Partnership with BMW” sticker covering the BMW logo.

Glad I had researched things a bit and saw this thread before my trip to the dealer. Got the filter and that was the correct one, but they tried to sell me this oil.

Did they have the correct oil in stock?

They did not. Showed them the correct part number and it was “oh, guess we’ve gotta order that”. First dealer where I bought the car, I was originally going to have them change it under Toyotacare, but after an hour of waiting, found out they had neither the oil or filters available. This is the second local dealer I’ve contacted about this stuff and still no luck with oil.

Toyotacare with this car can be scary. Nobody seems to know what's going on for service needs. Parts have little clue, service have little clue. We're doomed if we need service this year

I plan to print out a picture of the correct oil (USE THIS OIL) and leave it on my dash when I bring my car in. That way the tech see's it.

Agreed. I don’t know that I’ll use it unless absolutely necessary. At least until they figure out what they’re doing with this car as this seems to be widespread.

Where is everyone getting the oil and filter from? Dealerships or elsewhere? Any of the vendors on here selling them
Got mine from a local dealer after showing them that they needed to get the correct oil on order. Filters they had, and included with those is the crush washer for the drain bolt.

Not sure if my dealer screwed up, but I got the GR 5L oil for $17 each

You can often ask dealers to match their online parts prices (many dealers now sell directly online and you can pickup at the dealership).

I can get the same oil at Longo Toyota at around $10 a quart (on their website). It's a special order, they currently don't stock it.

But 5L for $17 is crazy, cheaper than walmart for Pennzoil. If you check your receipt, they probably charged you for 1 quart
