The current Miata is great but I didn't consider one since it is a two seater and I needed a new daily driver with more room inside than it provides. The GR86 is the one you can actually use much more practically. I bought a 2023 last year and have been very happy with it.

That being said I love everything I've learned about this current generation of the Miata. As a second car I think it would be a lot of fun.

Both the Miata and GR86 now offer Brembo brake calipers and higher end shocks as optional equipment and both have mechanical LSDs either standard or available. Hard to go wrong with either from a pure driving car standpoint.

I think it's because the general public confuses them with Supras
Yikes! If they even know they are both Toyotas or bonus for being GR cars, kudos to them. Most people I meet can’t even figure out; ”Is that a Supra?”, let alone a GR86 ?

Someone from work texted me one day saying "there's someone else at work with the same car as you!" It was a Subaru BRZ. This same person also constantly calls my car a Celica.

When I bought my GR86 the one color I wish had been available was yellow. I don't care for the body kit (the premium spoiler, Brembos and Sachs shocks are welcome) but the car really does look great in yellow.

Same for the Supra MKV.

Facelift or special edition spotted?
Hard to say from just that angle but it's nice to see another camo'd version out testing.

I don't see Toyota or Subaru investing much more substantially in the current generation other than minor tweaks. The current engine and chassis are increasingly coming up against new emission requirements and new crash/safety requirements.

I can see them offering a final sendoff model year special edition with the Brembo brakes, unique wheels and specific suspension tweaks.

But engine tweaks and horsepower increases I would not expect for the current 2nd generation.

Any of the upcoming regulatory requirements and any major leaps in powertrain specs and body design are going to come from the eventual 3rd gen model.
