Underbody K brace

I’ve seen some people mention they had to add spacers to stop their exhausts from hitting it (currently happening with my titan exhaust on cold starts going into reverse).

But, does that brace really do anything or needed? Will just removing it be a problem? Searched a bit, and it’s possible I’m stupid and searching for the wrong words, but I can’t find a definitive answer to it.

It's discussed at length here, and yes, it DOES have a purpose and was designed to help with overall body rigidity.

Although, nothing definitive in that thread and now more confused than I was before. But I’ll give the spacers a shot.
