I’m about to go to a local trusted shop for the new all metal oil pump. I’m hearing that for 2020 models they need a software update along with the new updated oil pump. I heard if you don’t get the update it could cause some issues. I’m tuned XHP and MHD. Would I have to remove all of it and go to the dealership for the update ? I am lost at the moment with this process.

Dealer or update via ISTA yourself.

Will need bench unlock after, and depending on how long ago the DME was updated, an updated tune with the new BIN ID.

As someone with a 2020 about to get the pumped replaced by a local mechanic. I’m tuned on ECUTEK. Trying to not get any dealerships involved. Can I get an ELI5 🙏🏻

No matter if the dealer updates or you do it yourself, the DME will be locked with a bench unlock needed.

Not 100% sure with the Supra folks, but for BMW’s with software dated 2023 and above don’t require an update for the ZTK pump.

I had 03.2023 software and didn’t require an update.

They all use the same BIN ID's and versions. Meaning, the Supra does not have unique DME tunes compare to the Z4. So same same.

How do I check for that to see when mine was last updated ?

You can check your SWFF and BIN version via MHD:

You do not need any software updates to swap out the oil pump. I had mine done earlier this year. I have an unlocked DME on my 2020 from factory. I haven't even done any of the recalls. They just swap the pump and you're done. Nothing needs to be done with the software, won't effect your unlock or tune at all.
