I was in Nevada much of the time but also AZ and it wasn't the sensor, it was dust that got by the filter and to the engine. All you have to do is hold a filter up. You can see through it small open areas everywhere. This was on several K&N filters and one that the mechanic showed me.https://www.knfilters.com/maf/massair.htm

This is an old debate. I will say that dust is a terrible problem in AZ. Drives us all cray cray!
That said I just installed a KN and noticed it was over oiled from the factory, so I intend to remove it and clean it and re-oil it myself. Have been using KN style oiled filters on a Rotaxaircraft engine for years - also tends to get over-oiled. Key is to use the cleaner and wash it thoroughly and then let it dry for a while and only oil the outside.
