If you have done any logs or seen any online you will see what i am talking about. Australian 98 ron is equivalent to a 91 Octane fuel in the states.I know Ethanol has some great performance qualities but I don't think it is all positive, even on the intarwebs.
And I have heard a number of people say Aussie fuels are rubbish but I have never seen any evidence of it. In fact, years ago I did see some evidence to the contrary, with testing showing that Caltex 98 was the best, closely followed by BP Ultimate.
I have used BP Ultimate in all my cars since forever and have never had an issue. In fact, my daily is tuned to 98 only fuels and it hasn't missed a beat in over 200,000km on BP Ultimate.
Guys in America from the bowser have 10% ethanol in the fuel. That bumps your octane level, prevents knock and the engine runs smoother.
Have a read about timing corrections.
