this is the perfect response. Thank you so much Dan. Would you be able to show me the small read out of km/h, the car is a couple states away and I can’t really go in to test drive it so if I do decide I will have to be 100% with it.I did, and it’s no different than a car originally sold in the US. On the Supra, the spec is exactly the same. There’s no extra work you have to do for registration - they did all of that for you when they imported it. The only differences are;
- Canadian sticker in driver’s door jamb
- When you change the units to miles and the speedo changes to MPH, you have a small read out of Km/h in the bottom left. I’m sure someone could figure out how to remove that with BimmerCode but I don’t even notice it any more.
- I’ve not been able to access the maintenance history on the Toyota USA site - it says the VIN is invalid. I planned to call Toyota USA but I haven’t cause I don’t care.
- The car fax on my single owner Supra showed 3 owners - that’s because a dealer in Canada and one in US had to take possession of the car for the import process. It’s a single owner car - I’ve talked to the PO, plus the other two ‘owners’ are dealerships and they ‘owned’ the car for 2-4 weeks each and 10 miles total.
Buying an imported Canadian car is smart; the Canadian used car market has been terrible for years. Even after the expense of someone else importing my car, I still picked it up for several thousand less than a comparable car that was originally sold in the US. I could sell the car now, 10 months later, and break even or even turn a small profit.
Even if the price is the same as a US car, you shouldn’t worry about it and you should buy it. However, you should also be able to negotiate harder on it because they probably paid less for the car and because others are needlessly concerned with an imported car so that probably drops the sales price a bit.
Dan
I had a blurry one on my phone - but it gives you the idea. The red line/garnish is normally not there nor the km/h speed. I have a feeling Euro Supras are this way also if you change units to miles.this is the perfect response. Thank you so much Dan. I appreciate it a lot, this helps!
Thank you! I was following the thread about being able to turn it off using bimmercode as well so at least that is a possibility.I had a blurry one on my phone - but it gives you the idea. I didn't think of that, thank you. It is just hard to find the spec I want since i'm only looking for low mileage 2020s that are clean title no accident etc.......I wouldn’t recommend. Canadian specs are worth less in the US market and some dealers will only pay wholesale price if you plan on selling in the future. Also, if there’s a recall in Canada and not US there may be some complications.
