Hey guys, I’m in quite the situation here and wanted other people’s opinion on the topic.

Supra paint issues.

Apparently this is a real issue with this car and I wanted to know if other people had similar experiences.

Long story short, I took my car to a well known and highly rated PPF installer in my local area and apparently my clear coat delaminated on them during the install.

This was quite frustrating for multiple reasons.

1) car was originally suppose to take only 3-4 days for initial PPF install (only high impact areas PPf being applied to). I initially dropped it off on 9/16.

2) the shop requested additional time to complete job (CA wild fires made it difficult to supposedly put a perfect PPF application). This was on 9/23.

3) I visited the shop on 9/26 and shop apologized for delay, promised return date by 9/28. All that was left was bumper coverage.

4) Today is 9/28, paint is ruined and they need to send it to a body shop to get complete bumper resprayed. Estimated completion and turn around back to me by Friday or Saturday. 10/2 or 10/3.

Guys, am I getting the wool pulled over my eyes here? This situation is quite frustrating but I’m willing to have the guy right his wrongs and give him the benefit of a doubt. Supposedly, they’d usually tell their customers to bring it back to the dealership for OEM paint issues, but because of my entire situation they’d give me a discount on the wrap installation and will cover the costs of the repray. I’m pretty cool and collective, but I’m sure others would be down right angry if this happened to them. Thoughts, comments, opinions?

Is that the only part and portion affected?
What brand ppf is this?
So, they screwed up one try, pulled the film aggressively from left to right and it pulled the clear first and then paint? Is that the story? Paint also looks as though it was scraped. That's too smooth for a pull effect at least after the portion next to clear.
I'm gonna also guess that, they laid it and left it to cure and realized it wasn't perfect after at least 4+ hours, maybe more.
Companies claim even after years you should be able to remove with no issues. Paint is thin yeah for sure, but I'm inclined to think they pulled it on a wrong angle and like a quick band-aid. However I'm no expert tread carefully.

As far as I know, that’s the only part affected (was told that a small rock chip caused the separation). I know for a fact that they took more than one try to apply the PPF correctly. The ash in the air forced them to remove and reapply, the number of times I am unsure.

This brings up another concern of removing the PPF once the time comes. What’s the point of placing PPF on for protection if it ends up having the opposite effect if the paint is defective

The PPF is Stek Dynoshield.

Sounds like it's been trouble since you brought it to them and there's been tons of people on here and online getting PPF done and fine.

Good luck

Update: car is still in their possession, should get it back this week. Looking for a deep discount once everything is said and done.

This is a shop in Sacramento California, 5 star rating on Yelp with multiple reviews. PM me if you want to know the shop’s name. I’m not trying to drag their name into the ground off of an isolated experience, but being completely honest, it’s been a hell of a rollercoaster experience.

I personally install clearbra's on my cars (I've done many cars through the years) and I did half of my Supra's front end to gauge whether the pre-cut lines would bother me on my 6 inch black car (ie garage queen) on the edges/corners. It did, so I removed it.

Absolutely no damage to the paint. And since I drive only surface roads (5-6 car lengths behind) I still have zero chips with no protection.

I had a similar issue with my One week old Red Supra. It was in the shop for a week getting The PPF installed, and then not long after I picked the car up it started to delaminate around some of the edges. Annoyingly I had to take it back, they were quick sorting it. It seems fine now.

Oh that’s crazy, I’m glad I’m not the only one who had this issue. This kinda sucks though, you would think being a newer car you wouldn’t have so many paint issues already:thumbsdown:

Another reason why not to get your a brand new car PPF’ed. Sometimes it does more harm than good. What do you think people did back in the 80’s snd 90’s for their new sports cars?
Lol that’s cuz he went with a shitty installer.

I think it has something more to do with the paint adhesion issue with that red bumper's production lot. Paint is baked and cured and I believe they do the same for plastic parts too at the suppliers.
