I do not want to become part of this argument and I have not experienced this on my 2021 yet. Only had it a few weeks though. However, I'm curious. Is this a problem only in that we are not able to rev the engine while sitting in park (or neutral as well I assume) or is anyone experiencing problems where you can't get any power once under way?

For me personally, I never have and can't think of a reason I would ever want to start my car and immediately rev the engine. Cold start, warm start, makes no difference. Just not something I would ever do. I think it's entirely possible if my car's ECU was doing what the manual says, I would not notice it. I start the car in my garage. It idles for a few seconds while I put on the seatbelt, get car play going, etc. and then I slowly (often just on idle power or at most barely any gas) back out and down the driveway. It's then another probably 30 or 45 seconds of slow acceleration out the to the main road. The car has probably been running for two minutes or so before I really have to give much gas at all. By that time even if this "protective program" had been running it should have ended and I probably wouldn't realize it was happening. However, if I had no power and it wouldn't rev once I needed to get on the main road and into traffic, that would be a major issue. Has anyone had such an issue?
If your car was experiencing the issue you would not have the ability to drive it regardless of how easy you are. Iā€™ve never attempted to put mine in drive and drive off after Iā€™ve seen this happen but I highly doubt you could if the problem was there. It has a complete lack of power and ability to rev. The op in here posted videos that show the lack of power.
Iā€™m not running to Toyota just yet. Iā€™m perfectly willing to think itā€™s protective programming in the car or some combination of something Iā€™m doing, and honestly I hope itā€™s me lol. Again Iā€™ve only had the car a week and it barely has 300 miles. Itā€™s just the manuals explanation does not explain what itā€™s doing and for how long. Also in my case the car has always been in park and operating temp.

in my case i did not attempt to rev cold. never have. Both times car was already warmed up and i had been messing with something and a friend or someone came by and wanted to hear how it sounded. even when warm i am not a red line guy. just a couple blips to 4500 was my intention. both times the hood and or door was open.

never had it be a problem when i have wanted to actually drive somewhere.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but the statement above is self-contradictory. How can you state you "would not have the ability to drive it regardless" if you've "never attempted" to put it in drive, etc.

This is key, key point. The very act of putting it into drive may allow it to drive off, even if it appears to develop no-power while in park.

Again, not trying to be difficult. Given that so many folks are reporting this, tyring to figure out the precise conditions that give rise to power loss is actually a bit tough, with the rather imprecise, incomplete, and sometimes contradictory descriptions posted here.

I get what youā€™re saying. I was just saying if the problem persisted thereā€™s no way the car would drive normal. He was saying he wouldnā€™t know if his car had the issue until he was much farther down the road. Iā€™m saying heā€™d know immediately because the lack of power and throttle would prevent it from driving anywhere near normal.

Next time Iā€™ll definitely be putting it in drive to see if it immediately fixes it what the deal there would be.

Like I said in post #2 of this thread, my 21 did not have any power for about 2 seconds after putting it in D and trying to leave home before power came back. Engine was at normal operating temperature, 80F summer day. For a second, I thought the engine would stall but it did not. Happened twice in 4000 miles

Iā€™m no mechanic, but I think that If it happens with transmission in D, then the cold start protection should not trigger because it can cause a safety issue on the road...

Maybe the cold start protection is indeed faulty and triggers outside its operating parameters?

For those having this issue, which ecu do you have? Mine built in march 20 (tuneable). Any of you have the new ecu thatā€™s not unlockable? Just trying to narrow things down.

I agree with the underlined part.

Lots of cars have limited power, or reduced rev ranges while engines are warming up.

Yes it will have ended by then. I felt this "issue" not too long ago. As I backed out my driveway onto the road. By the time I reached the first intersection 500 ft from my house, it was driving normal.

Be a bigger jackass. You should have bought a corvette you definitely have the personality for it.

Youā€™re convinced it not an issue. Move on man youā€™re contributing fuck all to the convo. Let the adults talk.

I contributed the solution lol. All you've contributed is a bunch of whining and misinformation.

You obviously canā€™t read. Thereā€™s literally multiple people with circumstances that donā€™t fit your scenario of the ā€œsolutionā€. What misinformation have I spouted by telling my experience? I havenā€™t said anything in one thing or another just what Iā€™ve seen w MY car. Jackass. Read. Reading is fundamental. done w you. Let the adults discuss the actual problems theyā€™re seeing.

Has everybody that been experiencing these symptoms completely stock? And maybe it has to do with different software verisons of the ecu. (locked/unlocked) who knows... trying to find some kind of common dominator. 2020 and 2021's?

Completely stock, Iā€™ll have to pop the cover and see what ecu build date I have at some point. 2021 A91

Ah, you mean the problem that isn't a problem? That one? Some might consider that misinformation :dunno:

They all fit my solution. The manual says depending on engine condition after start-up. Which is what happened to everyone in this thread. So tell me again how I'm wrong. How about you be the adult, and just admit you're wrong, and realize you don't have a clue. And just be happy your car is fine.

I've read both from '20 owners and mine is a locked '21 so I'm guessing it's in every car.
