Thump/hesitation when cold starting

I've been noticing that when I start the car(cold start), it hesitates a bit (maybe like half a second or a bit more) and then I feel like a jump or thump once it actually starts. It happens mainly when it cold starts, but there's been some few occasions that it does it without cold starting.

The car is 2021, stock, and only has 4000 miles.

Is this something normal? I started noticing it a few weeks ago.

I've noticed this "thump" too when starting my car occasionally. I wouldn't say mine has any hesitation but there's a very noticeable thump I feel in the floor.

Yeah I wish I had an answer for you but I have no clue what it is. Only happens sometimes. Almost feels like a very muted backfire.

any reasoning to this? I feel like my car does this occasionally as well (M340i). Only on a cold start and not all the time. Wonder if it has anything to do with air fuel and outside temps. Wonder if thats a normal thing for the b58.

Happens to me as well...maybe the starter is sticking? Hopefully, it's not the flex plate

That's just how these things often cold start. Almost like a quick pop-off and stutter before everything else roars to life. Totally normal B58 behavior. I kinda like it, as it makes the engine seem a touch more beastly

I get a loud clunk...yours sounds normal.
