So I’ve had my car for a few days. All good, but this morning it’s cold, so I drive to work all normal, and put it in sport to take off real quick, hit the throttle and nothing, like an old school turbo lag. The car sits for about 1 second or so doing nothing then begins to move slowly flor another second, then launches. It has not acted like this before, before it would just GO. The roads are slightly damp, but it doesn’t feel like traction control kicking in because there is never any wheel spin to stop.

how long did you warm up the car for? how many miles on the odo?

This happened to me within 200 miles and it happens here and there if I try to rev and the car isn't up to temps. But if it happens while your driving it could be something to look into. If the car wasn't warmed up and then switched to sport I could see it bog the turbo for safety.

Did you let the car warm up? If the oil temps were still cold, I believe the engine is reduced power

Car was full warmed up. Shifts and drives normal after hesitation.

I was just looking up common VANOS camshaft issues last night, this sounds like one of those issues.

The thing is if I turn TC off it lights the tires up immediately.
Could this be an overly sensitive TC in 37 degree weather with cold tires?

plus the car has 3800 miles on it. How many have this issue w so few miles?

Sounds like traction control to me.

Does the TC light ALWAYS come on? Or can it intervene and not blink at you?

To be clear what I’m asking is if TC is ON, and you try to spin the tires or launch hard, and the TC cuts in, does the TC light always blink at you letting you know it just kicked in.

Same, the car is pretty smart, if you try pinning it, and the car senses even the slightest bit of wheel spin or potential wheel spin, it cuts power immediatley. Next time, turn VSC completely off then try it. Ofcourse make sure youre pointed in a straight line, with no curves or trees nearby. lol

Yes in theory but there is a silent system you won't know about.
The active differential which cuts power to the rear based on weather conditions. This does not flash on dash.

Ah. Ok I was getting worried. The car is used (3800 miles) so you never know. I do know if I cut TC off the wheel spin instantly on these wet and cold roads.

You will find in normal mode with all the nannies on in the wet is a bit of a snore fest and it also cuts the power.

Put it in sports and leave the VSC on and you can have your fun safely in the wet and the engine breaking is also a bonus.

Only in the dry with clear straight road ahead and no other cars on either lanes would I recommend VSC off and sports mode on.

Definitely a strong no to use this mode in the wet unless you have plenty of $$, life insurance and like to live on the edge.

Safe driving :drive:
