3.8sec in a RWD car is almost impossible. It will more likely be around 5secs.
^Not true.

A 9 year old Porsche 911 S with 385 stock hp can do 0-60 in 3.8. The rear engine and dual clutch transmission help but it’s definitely possible.

BMWs own M2 can do 0-60 in 4.0 with 365 hp at 3500 lbs. Shave 3-500 lbs and I think 3.8 is possible.

Possible does not mean likely, but it’s well within the realm of possibility.

That's without knowing the true HP numbers too.

Base cayman is 300HP, Cayman S is 350.

I think Toyota wants to beat the Cayman S specs but somehow price it at 50k max to edge out badge whores and provide an amazing amount of experience per dollar

hmm....here's a manual Cayman 718 S doing it in 4.6...PDK w/ LC will get it down to 4.2 in real world driving. That's the fastest I've seen on YouTube

The question is, what happens when you shave 200-250lbs off and the power plant has more torque? 4.0 seconds might be the magic number, he may have a point.

However...

real world is always fairly different than test, but test numbers (in other words, perfect conditions) show the 718 S PDK doing anywhere between 3.6-3.8s 0-60.

Here's the road and track article again as reference: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2017-porsche-718-cayman-s-pdk-test-review

"One measurable increment in this instance is an improvement in zero-to-60-mph acceleration to 3.6 seconds, fully 0.5 second quicker than our test result for the 2014 Cayman S with PDK. The advantage extends to all our acceleration tests, with the quarter-mile happening in 12.0 seconds at 117 mph, beating the old car by 0.6 second and 5 mph, and the 30-to-50-mph and 50-to-70-mph tasks being completed 0.3 and 0.1 second quicker. Both cars had the launch-control function that generally sees PDK-equipped Porsches outrunning their manual-transmission equivalents that lack that feature. The new car’s advantage in our 5-to-60-mph rolling-start test that obviates launch control’s advantage improved to 4.4 seconds from the old model’s 5.1."

also demonstrated here along with all other sub 4s cars: https://www.zeroto60times.com/3-second-cars-0-60-mph-times/

We will see fellas! Would love the Supra if it could do less than 5s 0-100km/hr. However, 0-100km/hr is not an important measurement anyway, good torque and in gear acceleration is where it’s at. I was just pointing out that the 3.8sec 0-100kmhr is a ridiculous expectation...I think best case scenario it would match an M2 acceleration wise.

My Subaru Does 0-100 in about 4s flat, power is 266hp at the wheels (about 330hp crank), weighs 1270kg (2800lbs) and is 4WD. I think the best this Supra could do if the rumors are true would be 4.5secs 0-100km/h.

the two main things that facilitate it are a fast auto/DCT/PDK and launch control; those change things quite a bit.

the manual Cayman S is half a second slower for reference... so right around where your car is at ~4s

Any JDM Imprezza WRX from the 96 to 2000 weighed like 2800lbs and had 280+hp.

Unless this becomes the FT86 of Supra,

gonna suck if once the car is out, everybody stops showing up
I think most of the actual Supraforums guys already hate this car, so this forum probably will be the spot. Most OGs just want a Toyota Hellcat, which is fine, but they'll never get it. :dunno:
