Understandable if I was buying a BMW or a Lexus. The Supra should be pure sportscar... not a luxe coupe with all these extras and unnecessary creature comforts. I wish I could see the data related to the demographic they’re hoping to sell the MKV to/who they are targeting. I feel like that would provide more insight into their decision making... speculative decisions of course.
well in many ways it makes sense...most original MKIV owners are probably well into their 40s and 50s now, so Toyota has to pander to grandpas :) ..but admittedly MKIII used to be noted for its luxurious appointments..

You have a point and my 33 years forgets that sometimes. I’m sure many of those original owners whether that’s MKI, MKII, MKIII, or MKIV would love the opportunity to drive a Supra again, although I still think it will be a markedly different experience.... and I know that’s not always a bad thing.

However my selfish side says “Hey Grandpa.... why don’t you go buy a Lexus if you want comfort and stop crushing my dreams!” :(

Yes its true, engineers have been correcting poorly chosen chassis configurations for years with iterative suspension development.

Or, you could just get it right from the get go (LFA).
LFA is still very snappy at the limit though. There's no perfect setup. Weight distribution is merely one factor in the overall picture of handling balance, and seems to have become weaponized into more of a marketing strategy rather than just an indicator of potential handling characteristics.

FWIW, the safety gear I'm talking about actually doesn't weigh anything. Just some cameras and sensors. The standard safety stuff like knee airbags and all that jazz are going to be in these cars regardless. The FRS/BRZ is actually an amazingly safe car and still is pretty light, so I don't think we'll have an issue with curb weight in regards to safety.

However, trillion-way adjustable seats, 1000-speaker audio, and glass roofs do add weight, and, like @A70TTR has said, the board sees that stuff as more important in terms of making this car marketable vs a manual trans.

Again, we'll see! This is all speculation really. We never really get the full picture of what goes does in Akio and Tada's world.
totally get that many of these items aren't going to weigh a ton but it is just the philosophy I'm concerned about. They went through the trouble of using a much shorter wheel base & having no backseats only to put in more equipment and having a heavier automated trans, etc...the curb weight being close to 86 was an interesting prospect but this sort of info seems to contradict this a bit.
Guff pretty much nailed it with my sentiments, but you are right in regards to be being a contradiction... that's why I hope it's just the minor stuff that's been planned versus a bunch of other crap.

absolutely. even as a coarse measure,

1200kg = sub 300kW ok
1300 kg = 300-350kw
1400kg = 350-400kW

Not to mention the other effects of more mass. The brakes don't look massive (330ish) which is consistent with a car close to the 1300kg mark.

It feels that if they put the long rumored turbo 4.0 liter engine in the LC F it would be more supra than the supra bmw is making . Sure it is auto only but it has a toyota engine/platform and it is a GT , no compromises , a true halo car . That said here i am becoming a skeleton waiting for a turbo 4 cyl for the 86.

that reasoning is so Toyota that I have no issue what so ever believing that as the actual reason... I really, REALLY hope the idiots in global sales didn't succeed with the plea for 8 speaker audio and 18-way adjustable seats or whatever they wanted to put in this car. the committee has already had too much input into this car vs the 86 and it shows.
I don't believe 8 speaker audio, 18-way adjustable seats, and other type luxuries are wanted by Supra buyers, plus they can only increase the end cost...that buyer is more of a RCF demographic person in my opinion...

LC is an awesome drive, but it is NOT a Supra, not even close. Specs don't mean anything, it's all about the drive. And the LC and Supra drive very differently.

Also, not trying to break your heart or anything, but this sentiment about the 86 hasn't changed

I actually really like my brz transmission. It’s super notchy and fun to row. I don’t know how much power it can hold, but I’d be happy with something similar with the right gear ratio for the power

I don't mind the polls, but in my opinion people need to do a search before making a new thread. With that said, I bet there will be even more new "manual transmission threads" in the upcoming weeks lol. :p
I’ve always told myself I never want to be that guy in the forums that steers people to use the search function. After seeing multiple threads formed discussing the same topic, I’m going to be that guy.

what about it? been revamped for several years now.
The TSB was released last January and they began to implement the “updated” TOB in production in mid-2016. Keep in mind this car has been in production since Summer 2012.

I agree. I didn’t say the BRZ is equivalent to the Chevy Cavilier. It’s just a common issue within the FRS/BRZ community.
