2021 Supra 3.0
Hello,

I purchased my 2021 Supra 3.0 at the end of February. I did a easy/mild break in (kept revs under 4,500 RPMs for 95% of the time). At 1,700 miles I had the oil replaced at my local Toyota dealer.

Came back from a drive to big bear and decided to check the oil level at 5,200 miles (3,500 miles after first oil change) and saw that it was at the minimum level. I called Toyota Corporate and told them I want to create a case on this and get this figured out as I heard this is common for the 2021's. The following day I performed the oil change myself with the genuine GR 0W-20 oil and saw that only 3-4 quarts were left.

After a few days I called Toyota again and they gave me a case number and scheduled an appointment at the dealer. Went to the dealer and they they said that their shop foreman advised the tech to just top off the oil. I told them that I did an oil change less than 50 miles ago and they said, "yea, it barely needed any". After I picked up the car I noticed that the ticket they gave me stated that it is the customers obligation to regularly check and top off the oil periodically and this is currently under investigation with Toyota. So I called them back to get more details and they said, "Consuming oil is on of the characteristics of this engine. You will need to check it every 1,000 miles and top off as needed or take it here and we will top off as needed".

Is this the normal statement that Toyota is telling customers now? To me it sounds kind of lackadaisical.

I was also told that this oil consumption is typical of the engine....what bs...
I've consumed 3qts in 4500 miles..

I'd be happy to get 3500 miles before having to add oil..

Yea, to me that’s such a ridiculous statement to make and sounds like an excuse to not do anything.

How is your Supra doing? Is it getting low every 1,000 miles?

First time was
2500 miles
Second time
3200 miles
Third time 3900 miles...

Now Toyota is doing a oil consumption test...not allowing me to drive the car in sport mode...so far 550 miles n no oil consumed...
But the car in pretty neutered in normal mode...

my light came on around 4,600miles. I've driven about 1,500miles since the oil change and my level is still reading full. My consumption might have stabilised. Only time will tell. There's some guys on here dumping 5w30 in their cars, and seeing if that will slow down consumption.

oh wow, how many quarts were “burned” at each phase?

Sounds like they are really drawing this process out..

It makes a little sense that the 5W-30 wouldn’t be consumed as fast but I’m sure Toyota would throw a fit for not following the specified oil weight…

I would be stomping on the gas every opportunity. You can still get good boost in comfort mode. If you drive it like a grandma you’re falling into their “no fault found” trap.

You're absolutely right...
I never thought of it that way...
I will from this point beat the car every opportunity I have...

LiquiMoly 5w-30 and beat the fuck out of the car, you won't burn oil. :) i did like 15 back to back datalogging pulls on my local toll road from 40-140, the Supra handled it like a champ, check the oil the following week, still at Max. ??
