The oil measuring system in the Supra (and other BMWs) is pretty much the textbook example of over-engineering something. They took a bulletproof, easy to use and time proven component and made it failure prone and difficult to use instead.
That is absolutely true.

So true. I love both "smart" technology and over-complicating things, but a light switch still works when the fancy Hue stuff I have breaks or goes offline. I do wish they would give us some kind of mechanical mechanism to check the oil level for when these sensors eventually begin to fail (thinking 5 years from now, at the track, in the middle of nowhere, on a Sunday).
