Lol yeah because that's how it works ?
2020 engines can't go in a 2021 car and vice versa. They have different ECU's with different maps, different parameters, etc.
no shit? ? obviously they would swap that too (hopefully tuneable ?) . Wishful thinking but it’s a proven recipe (2020 motor).

My break-in wasn't technically "per the manual" but much closer to that than driving it like I stole it (or as I like to call it "drive it like a rental"). It was really easy with my 25 mile commute and similar to @Dannyvandelft.

Allow warm up driving gently (under 3K) on the way to the freeway. Then varying engine speed and acceleration/deceleration cycles all the way to the office - both by throttle and by manually shifting to avoid prolonged periods of the engine sitting at a single speed. Once off the freeway, then back to driving gently all the way to the office as a cool-down.

Basically just kept it constantly varying but each day or two I would up the top RPM limit on the pull/decel cycles by a few 100 RPM. No oil burn then, and none now after 17K miles.

My Blackstone report just came in. I’m going to run another report at 5,000 miles to see if anything changed.

Stats:
- 2021 with June 2020 build date
- Hard engine break-in
- Dumped factory oil at 1200 miles and switched to Liqui Molly 5w-30
- 1800 miles on lab sample oil
- iDrive showing max oil level at all readings

After seeing all the recent chatter about the 2021’s burning excessive oil lets see if we can find any correlation with engine break-in method.

* Update * For the people that voted “Yes” please respond with your production date and I will compile the data and add it here. Thanks

Production Dates with Excessive Oil Consumption:

Keep us posted on what they say. It seems more and more people are becoming aware of this issue.

Hello everyone,

2021 A91 Edition here. Built 06/20. Spirited driving with moderate break-in.

Low oil level came in at 2500 miles, took it to the dealership to get it documented, they added 1qt. Came back in at 6000 miles and I had them do a full oil change. Just passed 10500 miles, warning light is in again.

Taking the car in tomorrow and leaving it with them until they have an answer. Ive never had so many issues with a vehicle. This car has spent over a month at the dealership since I bought it.

1 quart every 900 miles is definitely not acceptable. Have the dealership check the cylinders for scoring and defective ringlets.

From what I’ve checked on regular driving it doesn’t consume as much. I’ve had times where I didn’t have to fill up even after 3000-5000 km
But I’ll get that checked.
Unfortunately We don’t have in israel dealerships that deal with Supra’s (I had to private import it to my country)

Adding the report for my 5K oil analysis from Black Stone. This was for the Liqui Moly 5w-30.

Upmost respect for you, side note, but what does this tell us? I used to just put oil in my car when it looked "dirty". Sometimes I'd add oil in between oil changes if low. Life was good. Now I own a Supra/BMW. Can I just buy liquid molly 5w-30 (or 40) and call it a day?

The report is just peace of mind that the engine health is doing well as mileage increases.

Its a case by case basis. If your car is slightly low between oil changes then switching to Liqui Moly 5w-30 will improve the oil consumption.

If your like the guy above that burns a quart every 900 miles then no oil will improve that.

Also if you’re tuned like me and pushing 20+ psi of boost then you will see more oil consumption than normal.

I measure my oil level with an OBD app every time I’m at the gas station. If my oil level is a few mm low I will add a swig when I get home.
