This shit with companies expecting customers to pre-fund their inventory is getting old quick. If they're confident in their ability to produce a quality product in a good timeframe they will take on the financial risk themselves and track the production all the way through to mitigate risk and ensure as close to on time delivery as possible.

Them saying pay in full and TBD on delivery means we'll give it a shot, worst case scenario we refund you. Thanks for the zero interest loan.

That being said, product looks great, I'd buy now if it was available but I'm done with giving companies a single dollar until they've got a product on the shelf ready to ship and encourage others to do the same...just my opinion.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but as someone that's needed funding to get started (these guys only have one other product I know of) and someone that invests a lot in small, seed/angel/pre-VC companies, I love it. I love the ambition. Companies get started -somewhere-, and the internet really makes this possible in ways that it wasn't before. I'm just a hair over a million in small stage investments this year.

I know this isn't an investment, but buying and designing an injection mold is hard and expensive. The absolute worst case here is that you don't get a refund, and you're what, out a grand? That's pretty shrug-money if you're in a place to buy $1000 tail-light replacements in the first place.

Getting a loan from a bank, or even friends and family funding with a pitch of "I want to make custom tail lights for this hyper-specific group of car nuts" is going to a hard, if not impossible task. I threw a grand at them, and I don't really have an interest in the product, but I'm sure if/when they get delivered I'll be able to unload them pretty quickly.

I do understand the hesitation @Zupra1776, but this isn't exactly a huge brand backing this. I'd happily tell Varis or Rexpeed to fuck off with this, but they have a production line.

I understand your outlook, but would say our point of compromise would be a deposit rather than full funding. The reality is that these companies can go fyre fest real quick and maybe for some people loosing a grand may not make them miss a mortgage payment but it certainly doesn't sting any less. Also VC funding is substantially different from customer funding. You know what game you're playing when VC and there is no reward without risk. I'm not trying to play market money games everytime I buy something...

I can see those with mkiv style spoiler liking these and buying but my motto is if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. OEM design is amazing IMO, money better spent on other mods

I personally think the 4 circle style taillights are dated, they should update them to look modern but still have that “mk4” style to them. Kinda what the ft1 lights did

I really hope someone make the FT1 style tail lights and maybe add a more visible reverse light. It scary reversing out of city parking spots where cars can't see that you're reversing.

I absolutely love the way the OEM tails look and can't understand why so many want to replace them so badly. We're all different, though.
I want the ROW/EU/JDM lights with amber turn signal for safety. Red signal is very stupid and blends in. Amber/yellow provides much better contrast.

While I would agree, in principle, with those statements - VC funding or even many crowd-sourced projects provide a decent dividend in return for the risk. In the case of the former, usually a profit-share or at least sizable increase on initial capital. In the case of the latter - often a substantial discount over the retail cost of the device/product.

In this case (and other micro-builder situations) the best case scenario is you paid full price, or close to it, for a product often a year or more delayed. You're also taking a much larger risk that customer service for damaged or incompetently designed products will be non-existent (assuming that you do eventually get the product).

Just like liberal return policies at warehouse stores (which have mostly disappeared) - while it is a benefit on both sides for honest entrepreneurs and consumers... it's also a trend I see becoming a race to the bottom for con artists as well. Look at crypto currencies for a great example of what that looks like today vs. 10 years ago.
