I know for certain I've double pressed the Start button (without actually starting the car) numerous times by accident while I was supposed to hit it 3x to get the car in diagnostic mode. I have no issue with braking.

But if you think about it, in order to get the car in diagnostic mode there is no way but to hit the start button twice in close succession +1 time which means diagnostic mode is bad for the car because you hit the start button twice in close succession.

This remedy makes as much sense as the headlight aim recall where they capped the horizontal adjustment while the service manual clearly states you must adjust both vertical and horizontal axis for proper aim.

But then people claim they are smart and so I must be getting dumber the more I read. I should stop reading and I will be smart because not knowing I'm dumb means that I must be smart.. okay, I need to get some more chips now cause I drained myself.

It's been the same for me but I've never attempted to start the car immediately after two presses. I think the cycle/glitch changes if you get into diagnostic mode after failed attempt(s). I'm not going to be one to try it out of course.

Looks like this recall handles another recall around the reverse camera brightness and contrast. And looks like I'll have to re-apply my bimmercode edits. https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInf...echinfo/html/prelogin/docs/cp/21ta04tofaq.pdf

With your foot lightly on the break. The car needs to attempt to turn, before the crack turns slightly in reverse, breaking the brake booster.

From the recall notice:

In May and June, additional analyses were performed and tests were conducted. It was suggested that certain pump parameter specifications, in combination with certain vehicle operating conditions (unusual engine start conditions caused by the vehicle operator), could cause a brief reverse rotation of the crankshaft and cause damage to the oil/vacuum pump.

Has nothing to do with "tunable" ECU's getting locked. Mine is affected too by the recall, and mine was already the new ECU they can't crack.

I guess I’m too dumb to understand why a crankshaft (engine) has anything to do with a brake booster (thing that amplifies my lazy right foot).

It’s like I turn on the wall switch to my desk light and the vacuum cleaner in the basement turns on. WTF..

"German Engineering"

There is a crank-driven vacuum pump.

Anyone have a how stuff works animation of a crankshaft-based brake booster? I'm apparently a noobly newb to cars.. because I thought it took vacuum from the intake manifold.. now things are starting to clear up that I am authentically dumb.

But atleast now I have knowledge that since I had my foot off the brake pedal while I tapped the start button 2x +1 (to get into diagnostic mode) my brake booster was unaffected as the crankshaft did not turn forward or backward.

There was a time, I think when I first got the car where I either lightly pressed the brake, or lightly pressed the start button and the car didn't fully turn over. I haven't done it since, but I feel like that is part of the formula.

I don't know. Who knows. I got sweet sweet Oatmeal/Peanut Butter cookies here. BRB Eating.
