I can't really advise you on that one, unfortunately. The issue seems to be clearly on the cold side of the engine, so getting that back to stock will at least force them to fix it up.
I'll have another update today after work. I'll keep you posted, another long 7 hours to go.

Have you tried putting the stock intake back in to see if it resolves the problem ?
Would love too, however, Toyota put it on my lemoned car. So they are trying to say I have to buy a new factory part. Which is now my fight as well

I still have my stock intake in the garage. I just hope they don't blame the intake as the issue. They said they would bill me $379+ if it turns out it's not a warrantied issue and it's my mods. I have no issue paying if what I did "broke" the car. But everything I've read and what everyone has said; it's not possible for the intake to cause the problem.

I basically told them the same thing. I will know more on the 20th, I am having another dealership look at the car, they have seen this on 5 other Supra’s. Germain Toyota’s master tech there said he will sort it out. I will keep you posted.
Like I told them if its my fault I will pay!

It's crazy that you've had this issue for a while now. I think your post started in August and now here we are almost halfway through October.

As a side note, maybe not related; but I did bring my car in to the dealer at around 4k miles for possible oil consumption issues. They drained the oil and filled it back up saying that there was no issue lol

That I should expect to add a quart approximately every 1500miles. My car is currently at 6800 miles. I had them change the oil when I brought the car in for the recall.

So I got an update from Toyota. I think at this point they are guessing. Now they are saying that they think it’s a rear differential issue because I have a slight negative camber.

The “certified” tech has no idea what’s wrong and is calling Toyota engineers to see what’s cause the misfire code.

The diff is causing a cyl misfire? :hmm:

Well if that's what the tech is thinking, anything goes now! I bet it's because the coolant reservoir is 2ml too low!

Yeah, idk how they are coming up with this. I thought it was as easy as plug in the computer, find issue, try to fix issue.

Everything I find online says check the spark plugs, rings and injectors if there is a misfire in cylinder 1. Idk if they did that since I am only speaking with the service advisor and not the actual tech.

Here's my two cents:

Play the game - put the stock intake back on, see if issue repeats. I have seen issues with aftermarket intakes that definitely cause all sorts of weird issues - they change the angle/location of MAF, etc. Do not listen to people on the internet who do not know how the car's ECU and sensors were coded to work together.

I wonder if you are pulling oil in that cylinder during high RPMs and its causing knock. I'm sure they checked compression, etc already...heck it might even be a bad knock sensor.

If they can't/won't fix it, get the car back and go to a tuner with a dyno and see what is up - if they don't want to do that Lemon Law it or sell it.

I'm going to let them do their thing to try and figure out what's wrong. The thing that bothers me is that they have no idea what is wrong with the car and are trying to use my aftermarket parts as a cop out.

The impression I get is that the car itself is confusing for the tech and there is an unwillingness to actually dig deep and find out what is actually wrong. Like they thought that I was putting cheap gas in the car. Doesn't the ECU log everything? I could be wrong but plugging into the car should give it's history; how fast I drive, what gas I use, or if the car has been over boosted.

Hopefully I get some answers today; they should be talking to Toyota Engineers.

As noted above you have non stock/factory parts. Many dealers will use this against you. If you want full warranty coverage and full access to the corporate backing - go into the dealer stock. Thats how the car is configured for internal analysis via the system a maker uses. Start at the stock configuration. If a dealer cant solve it there then the engineers from Corporate/regional can assist. If they see aftermarket parts then you have made it more difficult. They are not copping out. You dont have a stock configuration baseline the diagnostics look for, and its not their part to begin with. They owe you nothing at that point. Literally.

All I'm looking to be owed is for them to give me a fault and a resolution. I don't care if I have to pay but they haven't even suggested that I return the car to stock specs to see if the same issue occurs.

The thing is that from my end it looks like they are guessing and just assuming my aftermarket parts could be the issue. I don't want a guess, specially if I pay for the diagnosis.

By "cop out" I meant that they seem to be unwilling to really find the root of the problem. Which is fine, just tell me that's the case and I can take my car back. Don't keep my car for almost a week and tell you're looking at it. If it can't be done tell me and I'll go somewhere else.

for the record- I am not seeking a warranty claim or am claiming that I broke the car and the dealer won't cover the repair costs. I just want to know what's wrong and how to fix it.

I have seen dealers before where folks come in with an out of warranty car with modifications comes in and they flat out refuse to work on it - just sometimes not worth the headache.

Hopefully they get to the root cause of your issue!!
