Anyone else got a couple knicks and scratches on their front hood? I noticed a couple on there and tiny ones in the back and it’s so bothersome.

Should I wait to buff them out until I get my entire car detailed or do you guys just buff them out whenever you see them? Was planning to get a full detail every year so should I just wait?

Just annoying every time I wash it and see them so was wondering how y’all deal with them. Too cheap to get PPF and they look like they’re not even in clear coat might just be in the ceramic coat I have.

But it’s completely normal to get knicks and scratches on the front hood and rear bumper right?

Yes its normal, at a certain point you're going to get ones that wont just buff out, invest on ppf the hood, and bumper atleast if it does bother you. I have my bumper at the minimum with ppf.

Normal to get knicks n scratches on any car...

If you have ceramic coating I don't think you can buff without reapplying the ceramic again...

Finneeeee haha thanks for the reply though man means a lot! They’re not noticeable or bad at all I’m just a perfectionist even though I know no car can be perfect

The guys who help me out reapply for free when I want a nick or scratch out! But gonna just honestly do it yearly from now on to just get them all out at once!

Probably gonna get PPF done in a few months so I can have the entire car buffed and polished because it'd be pointless rn since I just had ceramic applied not too long ago. Thanks for easing my mind haha I always forget cars are gonna get scratches, nicks, etc no matter what.

I have a stone chip on the nose of car. I took it to a bodyshop, and the chip repair looked worse than the actual chip. My Supra is the Absolute white. It's a tri-coat paint. Same paint code as BMW (A96). The paint was still soft when I went to the bodyshop. As soon as I got the car home, I removed the paint from the chip with solvent. The chip is about the size of a pin head. I'm getting the PPF done on the 25th.

I’m really sorry to hear that. Mine are just really tiny and I know they can be buffed out in 5 seconds was just wondering if it’s worth it to do it all the time or just do it yearly to the entire car.

Unfortunately rock chips typically don’t buff out.

Also many think ceramic coating reduces chips… not the case either.

Clear bra / PPF is really your only option to lessen the chance of rock chips to the paint. I also recommend covering the headlights in film.

The Supra’s paint is soft… protect it when new if possible.

I'm planning on getting as many as possible... so that the repair costs will eclipse the cost of getting a new Varis CF hood. That's about the only way I'll convince myself to blow almost $6K on a mostly cosmetic accessory. ?

Seriously though, I've gotten a 4oz bottle of touch up paint and clear... so the tiny ones can be dealt with in the interim. Just takes a steady hand, micro-fine brush, and a lot of patience. Basically if it takes less than 3-4 coats per chip... then you're putting way too much on at once. As long as you don't slather it on (like most dealerships do with their used offerings...) it should be nearly invisible once cleared and buffed.

Unless it's a trailer queen... driving it will definitely mean chips... and driving it all the time will mean many of them. I've got about 20 to do currently... so about 1 every 1200 miles driven. I did do full PPF on the bumper, headlights, fenders and handle-cups however 3 days after I bought it.

If your nail can catch the scratch, it will require extensive polishing/re-clear.

And if inexperienced does excessive polishing they can burn through the clear.. then you got more problems. :bonk:
