So what's the theory here that ties this component to the loss of oil? @RenRed2
One theory is that its not detecting the correct oil pressure thus causing high pressure in the system. The higher pressure could be allowing oil to get past the turbo seals.

That’s one theory but we need more use cases to prove it.

Short question. Got a quart of oil in my trunk. If the "add a quart" message appears, how far can I drive, and is there a speed limit for that time? Can't find any information on that in the manual.

You should drive reasonably but not for 2 more weeks. If you have the liter in your storage area add half and then measure again. Some owner see this message and add the half and its full again. Take it slow, add a touch, re measure. Their is some variance in the system, ensure you are on flat ground and the motor is warm. Its just adding oil. Ive never had the warning appear as I measure weekly.

Thanks for the tips, I will do it the same way. But I was thinking of something else. For example, I'm driving about 500 miles tomorrow. If the message pops up and I have about 100 miles to go before I get home and to my toyota dealer, what should I do? Keep driving and go straight to toyota or stop and refill? I'm just wondering where the line is between keep driving and better refill. And of course how fast I can still drive without accelerating too much.

My second quart in the last 2,000 miles. Total of 4,200 miles on the Supra.

I’m at Toyota now. I was told that 1 quart/1000 miles isn’t unreasonable for a sports car. we are discussing that proposition now (in a civil manner). They’re at least opening a case and downloading data from the car.

Thats a BMW spec, nothing to do with 'sportscar'. My 440i and my M2 and M235i all had the same spec. No conspiracy. Its a set standard from BMW. Its in the book and well known in the BMW world what the oil use spec is. Hopefully this will even out over time and you will see less use. If not then its a Toyota issue to solve with you.

Yep, it wasn’t so much I thought a conspiracy, but I know the B58 doesn’t necessarily burn oil at that rate. My M240i, which gets driven hard, burns a quart every 5k or so. The standard deviation on these things should be tighter. And, I’ve burned a quart in as few as 700 miles in the Supra, which seems excessive.

HOpefully they will look at the measurement sensors as well.

That’s a very good point because the oil has gone down and then back up according to the sensors.

Toyota just got back to me and the service tech (who is stunningly knowledgeable and attentive). We’ll monitor. Toyota is clearly a bit nervous. We’ll see how this unfolds and I’m satisfied at this point.

Oh, I did get a free inspection renewal ?.

I think owners need to be more patient and engaging with dealer techs. I see here so often that they will go to BMW or other place. How do you expect the techs to get better if they do not work on your cars? Glad you are pleased with yours at the dealer.

Did the after AX season oil change, recall scheduled for Tuesday, then off to sleep until March.

Changed the oil last March at 1500 or so miles and this time at 6700 miles. I did not do a precise measurement but around 6.5 to maybe 6.75 quarts came out. Pretty pleased with that. Still using 0W20 Castrol Edge. Car has measured full at every check.
