what’s odd is , I was at the minimum level, added 1 QT and now I’m almost full? Does that make sense?
First car? There's nothing odd about that. That's how conventional dipsticks work, and that's what the notification you received on your Supra implied: "Engine oil at minimum level. Add 1 quart of engine oil."

Yup 4K isn’t that bad. The oil will burn faster during break in as what BMW says.

When does break-in start to end?

I had the Toyota dealer replace all the oil (with OEM GR Supra oil) after 1k miles as a precaution.

I just did another 4k miles after that on the replaced oil and now it's displaying low oil.

I'm not too bothered about stocking up on oil and topping it up every 4k miles if it is consistent intervals I can manage.

What I'm concerned about is 60k miles down the road, experiencing a failure from premature engine wear or that the engine is absolutely gunked up with carbon deposits when the car is out of warranty because there was something maintenance wise we could have done earlier. I'm curious where all the burned oil is going?

I believe it’s 1500 miles. Most of us have went to 0w-30 or 5w-30 to slow the oil loss. It’ll probably be a bigger problem way down the road at 60k miles, I’m not personally worried as I definitely won’t have this car that long. Might have to resleeve at the very worst

2021 here, 4k miles so far.

No issues with oil at all. Bone stock with only the recall for brakes done.

I'm wondering if the people burning most of the oil have mods? My commute is about 60 miles a day in LA Traffic so I should be burning something other than my loss of life. :p

No mods. I go through a quart every 750-1200 miles.

I burned before any mods, it’s unrelated. It just seems to burn the harder you beat on it. I beat the f out of my car every time I get into it (which isn’t very often) and it seems to burn after long nights of races or tracking

I see. Was wondering that as a possible notion.

Tough I remember back in the day my Mom's X5 used to chew through oil like a beast. Also have another buddy with oil consumptions issues on his M3. Could just be a BMW thing?

Either way, I'll never know as I don't know shit about cars. :p

Mine burns about 1 quart per 4000 miles as well. The oil is very thin being a 0w20. You oil consumption is within spec. nothing to worry about. Change the oil every 3-5000 miles and you'll reduce the build up on the back of the intake valves.

If you go through a quart every 750 to 1000 miles you’ll never need an oil change. Just replace the filter once per year. The oil will always be fresh!! Lol

Waiting patiently to see if things get seated or whatever and all resolves itself. It’s still a great car apart from burning the dinosaurs.

Premature engine wear is also my concern , but I guess this can be assessed by doing black stone labs tests on the oil? Anyone burning oil get their oil tested ?

I’ll add a no-abnormal-burn data point now that my ‘21 (11/20 build date) has passed 5k miles. I have driven the car hard from the first test drive at 7 miles, no easy break in. Additionally the car is still on the factory fill 0w-20. I plan on getting an oil change with more 0w-20 very soon.

Oil level log with ambient temps:
2300mi: max
2462mi: max
3074mi: max (81°F)
3498mi: max (71°F)
3808mi: max (67°F)
4288mi: halfway (65°F)
4333mi: halfway (64°F)
5026mi: 1/4 above min (55°F)

Curious when you guys top up the oil, when do you replace the filter?

My assumption is follow whatever the manufacturer recommended intervals (presumably every 10-15k miles?) drain and replace all oil + the filter?

I bought the extended warranty for 10yr/125k. Honestly idk why everyone doesn't. There's a reason why they wouldn't offer that if it was a bmw. It's kind of an oversight on Toyota's part.

Warranties are great when you pay a good amount that was worth it's coverage.

My experience with motorcycles has taught me that the extended ones aren't worth it for me, and I'd rather just pay for a repair when the time comes.

Often I'd have the manufacturer find ways to claim some crap isn't covered. Sometimes it came down to stuff that was a grey area in the "Normal wear" field.

If it's a large enough issue they just create a recall for something anyway. So just depends on the deal they try to get you for. I believe for the 5 year one they wanted like 4-5k for it. I was like I'd rather spend that after my 2 years are up and see what needs to be replaced :p
