MKV Future Classic?

Hello (my first post here),

I keep reading various articles about the MKV Supras also have a high potential of being a future classic (similar to the MKIV ones).

I understand that all new cars depreciate for many years. And lucky few would plateau and start appreciating. But that process usually takes more than a decade.
What do you think the MKV's curve would be like until it sees meaningful appreciation after it has fully depreciated?

I don't think it will be quite some old M3 level. But it will be similar to the MKIV market and how it is now with a mixture of builds and stock rare versions. Its really debatable if this car ever hits Nissan Skyline level in the far future but I don't really see a reason why it can when the motor and chassis have so much potential like the MKIV had.

They will immediately get higher value once they stop production. Then expect a long long timer after that for it to come back up. The plateau should be like 2026. I would not expect to « make » money on a stock one, let alone modified. These will be much like the limited Shelby gt350 in many ways.

But given how the radical and batshit crazy EV agenda has been killed off in the near term in the USA, I would say no. Gas cars are going nowhere and there will be other more exclusive gasoline sports cars (perhaps the Supra GRMN) than the GR Supra. They have produced a metric f*ck ton of these and they're selling a lot of these relative to other sports cars in its class and we know that the A90 sold more in just two years than the A80 did in eight.

Mind you, the A90 will have a seven year life cycle (another 5 years of production from now) before we either get a pause, or have the A100 immediately succeeding the A90.

If the A90 becomes a classic, I think it will be for the same reason the A80 was so popular and respected, and that was for the level of engineering that went into this car. I also think it could become a classic because the next GR Supra will be electrified in some form (my money is on it being a mild-hybrid or a hybrid), and that would leave the A90 as the last pure-ICE GR Supra.

A lot of cars have the potential to be a classic collectible in the future. I remember a few years ago seeing a completely standard mk1 Vw golf cl with like 170 miles on it go for crazy money. The problem with thinking that way is it gets in the way of your enjoyment of the car now. You’d have to garage it immediately and store it. I’ve seen people make a success of this with cars like the latest NSX. I think better to just enjoy it now though. We’re in another golden age for cars right now.

It probably won't attain "Legend" status like the Supra MKIV, R34 Skyline, etc. and demand that kind of hyperinflated market, but I see no reason why it won't be at least somewhat valuable. Think Honda S2000, Mitsubishi Evo, some BMW M cars, etc. - they are by no means extremely expensive, but they do not cost what you would expect a 10+ year old car to cost compared to new - used models actually cost fairly close to what they were new. I could see the Supra not dipping below $35k used for a long time. Definitely more desirable, uncommon, and commanding a premium compared to other sporty cars like the 350Z, 370Z, Subaru WRX, Mustang GT, Lexus RC, etc.

Hard to say. If you asked someone in 1993 whether the Mk 4 would be a classic, you might have gotten the same responses you see above. I mean, even in the early 2000s, you could still find low mileage 6-speed Turbo examples in the low $30K range (if not lower). If I had to guess, the A90 will be in the middle of the bell curve, somewhere a bit above average: not scrap value but not astronomical either. Either way, over the long-term, you'd be better off putting money in an index fund or a piece of land than garaging the car.

No. Too many b58 variants out there.
maybe a launch will be worth something in 20 years. But who wants to just park theirs in a garage and never drive it

I’d rather enjoy it and then watch BAT for a trends in 15-20 years then since we are fans and knowledgeable buy one before the “word” gets out that prices are going up

I think the Z4 will be a collectible car considering its low production numbers.
