Help! Ppf!

So I bought an A91 for 51k during this summer (which was a heck of a deal) but it had a few caveats. One was it had some slight damage in the nose (paint that was missing then the owner used with wrong touch up and buffer burned the area around it). It also has no ppf so there are quite a lot of rock chips on the bumper and some very small ones on the hood. Also, some behind the wheels which I immediately put rock guards on. I love this car. I hate to see this damage especially because it’s a special edition. So, I’ve been considering reshooting the bumper then putting the car on a trailer and getting it ppf’d down in Miami. My main worry after this is that rocks will go through the ppf when I drive it around at my home, which I intend on driving this car around. Does it makes sense to repaint? Would I immediately get rock chips again over time and waste my money that I spent on the repaint? What’s your guy’s experience with ppf and rocks on this car?

I would strongly recommend you do a respray before you put new ppf on. It’s by no means cheap and it provides the best protection especially against smaller rocks and such. Your other option is to ceramic coat on top of the ppf for extra protection but I would rather have the paint as fresh and great as possible before I invested in the cost of ppf

Just repaint and apply ppf.
Ppf is there to protect against chips. Ppf can self-heal to a point. Apply ceramic coating afterwards... If ppf is beyond repair, get it replaced. That's the point....
If you're super worried, I don't know if it makes sense and how it'd look, but apply 2 layers of ppf.....

Or fix the paint to a point, locally. Wrap it. Ppf it.....

Thank you for your reply. What’s been your experience? Many tears in the ppf from rocks? Do you drive a lot?

I agree with you. Leaning toward reshooting then ppf. Have you had many chips in your ppf?

Well, it won’t protect you from boulders? From what I know from the installer I’m talking to, its mostly small stones that might fly up from the highway. Its a film.

I honestly don’t know. I chose the installer based on Yelp reviews. PPF was not something available the last time I bought a car. I’m still waiting for my dealer to have my GR86 in stock. I was doing pre-purchase research.

Ppf is not bullet proof. It just greatly minimizes chips. If the speed the rock travels at is fast enough it will still damage the Ppf. If you're so worried just don't drive the car.

FYI, ages ago I had another car that I resprayed. The PPF shop had said they wouldn't apply PPF on a freshly painted car until 15 days after to allow paint to cure. (If you live in an area with cold temperature then add a few more days).

Yup I’m aware of this as well. Prob gonna wait a month.

Rocks usually do no go through clearbra, just dents the paint below it if big enough and the cracked paint peels off with the clearbra when removed.
