I bring mine to BMW. Everything has been great so far. It’s the same price as at Toyota and I like the familiarity all the techs have with the car and software. While it’s one of the most expensive Toyotas, it’s barely even a mid range BMW so I’m not too concerned about someone beating on it or joy riding. Just a better overall experience for me but this could just be unique to the dealerships that are nearby.
I’m surprised (and jealous) you managed to find a BMW dealer willing to service the Supra. I originally thought it would be great, till my buddy and I tried plugging the BMW diagnostics program on the Supra, and it blocked access (after some initial info started scanning). Then I realised they might be familiar with the bmw layout etc, but their dealer computers wouldn’t work anyway.

What is the world coming to.. people can’t even do a simple oil change?

I blame the school system for raising pansies.

In my case, I’m taking the free oil changes (and the extra 2 I apparently added on when I bought my Supra). Once those are done then I’m doing them myself. Same with my pickup.

The car itself is one of the easiest things I’ve worked on so far - throwing on lowering springs, swapping out the DP, changing the catback, installing new intake and turbo inlet, running wire through the firewall for JB4 - all super easy.

But they can change the oil, theoretically.

You know, I learned early on after letting the dealer do a free oil change on one of my new Infiniti’s in the past. They totally screwed up the lower shroud bolt torque where I was either missing them or was over torqued and near cross thread when I went under the car to do the 2nd oil change.. so never again I took my cars in for regular maintenance.

Yesterday I was at the dealer getting recall repair done on one of my other cars. I think the last time a dealer touched any of my cars was 17-18 years ago.

Well, everything went okay at Prescott Findlay Toyota for my first service oil change. Met the trained tech, and he was knowledgeable on the Supra. I'm a happy camper. They also checked the passenger seatbelt locking mechanism recall, and it was okay.

I hear ya. Had to plant my feet on the wall of the garage to get enough leverage to loosen the oil drain plug on my wife’s vehicle because some lazy dickhead put it on with an impact wrench. Came loose so violently the wrench nearly flew out the garage and down the driveway. Was certain I had snapped the head clean off. That was the first, last, and only time that dealership touched that vehicle after we purchased it. The free inspection is not even worth going back there.

Everyone doesn’t have a garage of tools to wrench on their own car. When I had a house, I loved doing all the maintenance on my own cars. I live in Manhattan now so driving to a dealership is preferable. I can also get the stupid state inspection out of the way too. Gotta make sure the brand new car is safe to drive

I wasn't attacking people without garages or folks that don't know how to do oil changes themselves. I was complaining about boneheads at some dealerships (who are supposed to know how to do this service) that can't do a simple oil change properly.. and think that they are entitled to work there.

First question I’d ask the new person would be to go and get me a left handed screwdriver. That’ll tell you everything you need to know about them going forward.

Ah gotcha. I misunderstood and thought you meant everyone should be doing their own maintenance. You’re right, it’s shitty that you risk having your car messed up for something as simple as fluid changes at a dealership, where the techs should be more familiar with your car.

Posting on this old thread to add just got my Oil done using the First free service a week ago.

All was good, and no issues. Tech was funny and forgot the engine case cover after they were done, but honestly, that's not a big deal so why care when the more important stuff was taken care of.

Only thing that worried me was they were using a coke bottle to pour what may be soda in my engine.... hmmm..

Joking, as I've said all good and no consumption issues after heaving commuting.

When I had a Mitsubishi years ago, the AWD Turbo, and 1990 that after 20 years still looked new except for the crappy leather seats. The mechanic at Mit. who always worked on it was superb and was more than happy to have me watch him and he even would explain what he was doing as there was some issue with the cams (under warranty). He was really great but that isn't common.

On the Subra and my FJ Cruiser, I change or have changed, the fluids ahead of schedule.
