I finally reached the magic 1200 and was ready to unleash my A90 this morning when I had my first stall after backing out of the garage. I was in sport mode this time. Hesitation sometimes in the weeks prior....often occurs within the first couple minutes after start up. Is it best to warm the A90 up completely?

The only time I've ever experienced anything even remotely similar to this is after just flashing a tune revision. Occasionally the car won't react to electronic throttle position properly, it would rev hang very very low in the RPM's, sputter, and sometimes stall, but it's always fixed by shutting the car off, locking the doors, and leaving it for close to 10 minutes. This allows time for the ECU and stuff to power down, and I'm assuming, reset the throttle position data or something.

Was you car low on fuel? This problem is rare, but it's been posted on this forum before by a handful of people. You may want to do a forum search. I would most certainly take it to the dealership, tell them exactly what's happening, when it's happening, tell them it's intermittent, and let them look it over.

It's got 10 gallons in the tank. It does the same thing..."the car won't react to electronic throttle position properly, it would rev hang very very low in the RPM's, sputter, and sometimes stall"

I usually start moving when the rpm drops to 900 after start up. I wonder if warming it up longer will have an effect?

I'm going to have a couple hundred miles of fun and then bring it to the dealer for the free oil change. I plan to inform them of the hesitation and stall issue.

Perhaps it might have something to do with not allowing it to warm up properly, then again, there are a lot of times where I crank the car up and back it out of the garage or out of the driveway immediately afterwards with no issue at all. Like I said, I've personally never experienced this issue in any situation other than having just flashed a new tune or tune revision onto the ECU.

I dunno...it just stalled under load when I depressed the gas pedal lightly.

Mine has never once ā€œstalledā€ on me. I also run my car cold in the morning and give her maybe a min to warm up and then drive away. Not hard of course but just regular driving and itā€™s never happened

Same. Idk if this has to do with not burning oil or if I just got lucky. Or both.

How do you stall an automatic?
It's hard to explain how it happens, but it's happened to me after installing a tune revision a couple of different times. It's like the electronic throttle control unit doesn't get a proper signal. So say you notice it's happening, your throttle response is damn near non-existent, it's climbing incredibly slow and super laggy, you're pressing the gas pedal more and more and eventually you're at like 80% pedal travel on the accelerator but the throttle is only at like 5%, so the RPM's are only at like 900 instead of what would be 5,000 if it were working properly, then you let go of the gas pedal quickly and the load that was on the engine/trans just causes it to stall. It's very odd. My car has never done it under standard driving/operation, only ever after having just installed a new tune revision.

Is it possible you're experiencing the throttle hesitation issue that is very common? I believe some folks experience it while backing up also. Read through this giant thread to see if you're symptoms are similar. There is no fix from Toyota yet for this issue, though some people seem to think that turning traction control off fixes it, but that's not really a valid permanent solution.
