How many of you have front license plate screw holes and how do we stop them from doing this?

When a front plate was required in Ohio (no longer the case)... I would always tell the officer the car was involved in an accident in a parking lot (private property - no police report required) where someone hit me. I just received the car back from the body shop and the front license plate bracket was on order and is to arrive next week for install. Always worked for me.

I never ran a front plate for 27 years. Just kills the looks of a car. No tickets.

Be warned for the parking meter maids when parking at a meter... always ticketed cars for no front plates.

Hope this helps others where they are required.

In Au, the cars are ordered to you, not chosen from allocation. So I told the dealer to not affix the plate (or even remove the protective coverings, let alone wash it) and they complied, which was great.

How to stop it from happeningā€¦
I asked the dealer nicely when I ordered the car not to install the license plate bracket. Asked again when they received the car to remind them. At the time of delivery, they made me sign a document stating that they are not liable for me getting a ticket w/o front plate.
Had to do this as well. Mentioned it briefly during the order period. Reminded them again when it was time to sign some papers, and one last time on delivery day since it sounded like some people were out of the loop, confused as to why, or mightve forgotten.

After I did insurance in the dealership and picked which plate I wanted, the delivery guy came up to put it on the car. I said "You didn't drill the front bumper did you?" He was like "oh, I did it already" I was about to go "OH SHIT". Turns out he was joking lol.

Ended up installing a plate relocation kit on the spot, so I didnt get any warnings or had to sign disclaimers, but it did seem my salesman wasnt aware they existed when he saw me put it on.

I had my vinyl guy make me a life sized sticker of my license plate for one of my cars and never once had an issue and most folks know how notorious Cali cops/highway patrol are. Cost me like $20. If I was ever forced to run a front plate on my Supra, I would go this route.
For some reason when I read "a life sized sticker" the only thing I could image was a license plate, human sized. Was just thinking how are you mounting this?! LOL

It's been a long day.

Thatā€™s a hilarious image. I suppose ā€œactual sizeā€ would have worked lol.

maybe Iā€™ll just have to wrap the whole car as my license plate. Problem solved!!!

ā€¦Iā€™ll see myself outā€¦

"how do we stop them" implies we're starting a grass-roots movement and I'm down for that kind of revolution.

I bought my car this past week, it was sitting in the showroom without the front bracket on. I made sure to tell the guy I was working with to make sure no one drills into the front bumper and to use a couple zip ties to affix the plate for now while I ordered a relocation kit.

No problem over here, he did what I asked without issue.

~ Cool.

I've gone to the dealership many of times with new cars I've secured before taking delivery and added a piece of blue painters tape to the front bumper area and marked with a black sharpie... ā€œDo not install front bracketā€. The dealer prep guys sometimes don't get the message from the salespeople who mark it in the file.

Not sure if any of you have looked at the back plate but it is a freakin' mess - there is no mounting holes/threaded inserts built into the body (like a BMW) so the dealer haphazardly tapped screws into the car for the plate mount.

On top of that, they used screws too long to mount the plate to the holder which cause some more "speed holes".

If that wasn't enough, BMW changed the license plate brackets so the screws that hold the plate (on the bracket) do not have a threaded insert so they can poke though and cause damage as well (that would not have helped with the ledger board bolts they used lol). There is a great thread on the X3M forum. The good bracket/plate holder can be had on Amazon for ~$10 (I got them for My X3M and the Supra).

To add icing on the cake, they mounted the plate so it was pretty much sitting on the bumper. The GF thought this was a travesty (along with the additional speed holes lol) so I got the new mounting bracket and put some new holes in it to raise the plate off the bumper. Plate has a simple silicone frame on it.

At least the idiots at the dealership listened to me telling them not to put on a front plate. I didn't think to ask the same of the rear.

Looks better...and level in person :)

When I picked up my new mk5 the dealer was aware enough to ask me if i wanted them to drill holes for the front license plate

I have a custom plate to install on the rear, I still have the plastic holder attached to the rear. Now you got me thinking if I want to keep it on the car or not.

broā€¦youā€™re going to let a rear plate decide if you want to keep a sports carā€¦????

At least make sure youā€™re still getting the 15hp from the wiper fluid first!!!

Edit: Lol, ignore me I'm stupid and read what you said as "if I want to keep the car or not" :p
