I have these two in my cart and will probably get some washers from Home Depot or see if someone has some laying around.

I went with higher duty spring and some 97lb struts. Watching Andrew's video, seemed like 120lb was still a bit much (end of video, the trunk was jiggling). Hopefully my combo works.

Any update on this ones? I don't like that it bounces either

Perfect solution now imo. I went with the shorter springs (one on each side) in the 1 3/4” length. Specs are listed in the image. Super elated with the end result.
Wooo nice! How strong are your springs? Looking at the link posted by Vuuduu there is a 40mm long version which gets close to your length, but these might be stronger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096FKT52W?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_298K1YMMQ6B8NYN0B1B6&th=1

This also is just orderable on amazon since some folks might not have ace near them

Just to update. The 97lb struts work fine, but you still need to assist a bit. However, the same “jiggle” once fully extended still happens, but playing with the different spring combinations seemed to alleviate it a bit.

Amazon delivered only 1/2 springs…so I went to Home Depot to see if some cheap compression springs work.

Nope
. Looks like I have to try with another spring(s). The green die spring by itself is too short for the strut to decompress it.

Too short, it won’t be enough compression. Too long, the trunk won’t close because the strut cannot fully depress.:banghead:

Going to make an Amazon return and go with a longer spring similar to the 1-series boot mod. Otherwise, Andrew’s solution works.

Here are some combinations I tried just to see if I could get things working. The first pic worked but there’s not a enough travel for the strut to fully depress, makes the trunk misaligned and hard to close.

The second pic was with Home Depot compression springs. Didn’t work either.

Amazon offers the Strongarm 4537 model for a bit of a better deal and free shipping. Just ordered a set, we'll see if this works!
Can confirm that these will not work on their own. They pop the trunk open a bit more but just just shy of the point where it will open automatically. A small helper spring would definitely do the trick however these struts are too aggressive for my liking and jar the liftgate at the fully open position. Seems like it could cause hinge failure over time and just more of a worry than it's worth.

Helper springs on the OEM struts seem to be the next best route.

Yea so I'm wondering if the 97lb were too strong if going down another strut tier, then adding springs to get over the first part of the lifting?

Yes, but how do you get the springs on the OEM struts?

I'm curious to see how @Andrew4Supra springs will work with your 97 lb struts. The springs look to be stiffer than the Home Depot ones you tried.

Yea the Home Depot springs are too weak to force the trunk open. The green die spring I originally bought was strong but too short.

I haven’t found anywhere locally that carries the specific spring and weight capacity that Andrew found nor did I find it on Amazon. (Didn’t want to wait on eBay or buy from China

What I did try to do was find a die spring on Amazon that was in similar length and diameter. The die springs seem to have enough strength to assist the struts given that Tesla and other BMW owners have used similar setups.

I ordered 3 sets of springs: two sets die springs of various lengths between 2” and 3”; 1 set of compression springs very similar in spec to Andrew’s. All will arrive tomorrow in which I will update here with results.

Just wanted to add:

I just installed these:

https://www.liftsupportsdepot.com/1...th-10mm-ez-release-ball-sockets-pm3667ez10-w/

They work great with the Streethunter Wing.
Doesn't auto-lift from the button push, but once you lift it past a certain point it does.

No weird shaking around at the fully open position either.
It perfectly slows down toward full open.

The quick-release bits made doing the install really easy.

An update.

The yellow die spring diameter was too small for my strut (even though specs said otherwise).

The blue die spring was perfect but still too short to compress despite the longer length.

The regular spring was strong but too short as well.

Given how hot it’s been in Texas (100+) and my impatience. I again tried various combinations to get the trunk to open and it worked. However, I get that shaking from the strut pushing the trunk open. (Don’t mind the washers, they will be replaced with better ones.)

Once I cool off, I’m going to find the final solution. I’m going to go with a different strut that slowly opens towards the extended length and going to go with a die spring that matches the blue one but longer.

1 3/4 - 2 1/4 is the best length for the helper spring but the strength / compression is the spring is key factor.
