Yeah it's either a system like A70 described or it's a electronically actuated system in the muffler. An actuated system will have a button that opens it or will open at higher RPM (or both).

Most BMW's(higher perf models) come with a valve that opens a flap(active exhaust) as the engine reaches a certain rpm, or using the sport mode will open the flap all the time no matter the RPM's, this is purely for noise reduction. But they also have added the active sound, which is piping the sound through the speakers, and supposedly it's unaltered exhaust/engine noise, not layered or edited. They are two separate systems for two different purposes. I will bet the Supra/Z4 come with both like the M3/M4, etc..

I prefer the style that actuates with a button. I like having quiet exhaust mode for creeping by the policemen and loud mode for hooning and whatnot. Weight is the concern with an actuated setup of course, and well, a lot of us will be going to 4" turbo-backs anyways lol, so maybe they'll all end up in the bin.

My brother (who is almost clueless about cars) bought a Renault Clio RS. He called me just to tell me how awesome it sounded. He wasn’t so thrilled when he found out the car had an artificial engine sound “generator”, with the setting “Nissan GTR” enabled.

Being this is Tada, I don't think we will have to worry about that :)
We just have to think of it like a beefier 86. If Tada has had the right solution in the handling department with the 86, he’ll also be able to do the same with the Supra, while adding more power with the BMW engines. In short, it’s an “86 Turbo”, but rebadged as “Supra”. :drive::flame:

Loud and proud! my A70 idles at ~105db, jumps to about 120+ when driving around, and WAY higher at WOT, especially when that when the gate opens lol.

To be fair, it got far louder once I went single/cams/etc.

If I had to drive a car that sounded as unpleasant as a stock 86, I'd take a version of this trick any day of the week, fake or not... drive a 911 one day, an AMG GTR the next, treat myself to the LFA on the weekend...:D

Reading more into this, $47k as a starting price for the 4 cylinder is not bad at all. I'm not familiar with BMW and their pricing/trims, but looking into KBB for the previous gen Z4 it started just above $50k for the 4 cylinder, $58k for the single turbo I6 and $67K for the twin turbo I6. If anything, this implies the Supra might be cheaper than expected.

I just hope that 400HP figure is correct. I really want a German Japanese C7 Stingray. If not, then please Toyota make both 6 cylinder engines in both the TT and single turbo trims the same. Everyone will go big single turbo anyway :dunno:

Here’s my take why I think the Supra will be made more affordable than the BMW Z4:
-it will not have carbon fiber construction/parts, which the Z4 will have
-less technology and equipments than the Z4
-less luxury than the Z4, as it is positioned to be a sportier version
-shared parts could mean like wholesale, cheaper to manufacture as to reduce costs
-it will use BMW’s less powerful engine as compared to what the Z4 will receive

I'm not too sure about that. Possibly for the fully packaged 4 cyl. depending on power maybe. I put together a list of current 4 Cyl turbo cars offered today and what I think this car would be competing with starting prices/weight. The numbers may be off and rounded here and there but are pretty spot on:

(Toyota stats are based on rumors and the weight is what I'm guessing since the 6cyl is to come shy of 3300lbs)

At the end of the day this is a Toyota. Different class when talking about Porsche + Jaguar. I can see Lexus being included in the conversation in terms of brand. But really the Toyota brand is more in class with the vehicles listed at the top of the list and cars it should outperform. So I agree it should start in the $40k+ but it also needs to be at least 300HP+. Based on the rumors, the Civic Type R may be the better buy and it would be sad if a Civic Type R has more HP than a base Supra. The Camero could be the best bang for your buck for what you're getting (not that I would).
