Okay so I'm making a new post about this because I'm in desperate need of help.

Toyota basically gave up on me and refuses to start throwing parts at the car because the issue is so intermittent and they basically dont believe me that its actually happening
The coolant decides to literally explode and force its way out of the main reservoir.
The car is completely stock. Dealership has had it for months and ended up just giving it back to me because they cant figure it out, head gasket tested (checked out ok) and cap has been replaced which did not fix the issue.

This has happened three times in two months. The second event being a month after the first and the third being two days after the second.

No codes present relating to anything coolant wise other than the refill coolant popup after it happens. Not overheating either (at least according to the coolant gauge).

Spoke to a couple of specialty shops which pointed out a possible short in the water pump or some sort of blockage around the heat exchanger.

I'm running out of options here, if anyone has any idea what it could be it would be much appreciated.

I've included a video of the issue happening in real time.

Try a different dealer, but I assume you replaced the main reservoir cap already?

Ive tried 3 dealerships, first one lied to me and said they opened a case, spoiler they didnt.
Yes the cap has been replaced but not the bleeder screw, i just overnighted that titanium one to see if it works.

To bad you didn't have any soapy water when you took that video. From the sound of the video pressure was still escaping and you could have pinpointed the location.

I can confirm its coming from either the cap or bleeder screw. Cap was replaced but well see if the new bleeder screw helps.

I've gone through a few caps go get a BMW one. Haven't had any issues with those.

Interesting you say that because while the issue is super intermittent only happening once every month or so it actually did it not even a few hours after the new cap was put on. Ill go ahead and order another one from BMW. Thanks!

Hey do you have the part number by any chance? The one I see on FCP Euro is "17117639020"
Looks a little different on the underside compared to the Toyota one but the top is the same.

Ive had a very very slow leak from mine. Its been about every 5000 miles that ive had to put a splash of coolant in to top it up from the near minimum level. Fortunately not nearly as bad as spraying out. A while back someone recommended to replace the caps but I just havent gotten around to that, but will this winter.

I have not, interesting product. Although I dont believe the coolant is the issue here its either something really simple like I may need a third expansion cap or, something is causing a blockage in the system and causing excess pressure.
Wish you luck! I had the same issue with a VW GLI under warrantee. They replaced the reservoir and problem solved. Toyota should be all over this! Appreciate @Jesse DaBears posting the replacement cap. Hopefully it'll be as easy as that...

Yea that’s the thing they basically refuse to help me now, this is the 3rd time. They don’t wanna “throw parts” at it because “it’s expensive” lol. So I’m kinda on my own at the moment

my advice is get a exhaust gas check on the gas in resevoir to ensure its not a gasket/block fail ... I have seen a very similar thing on an i8
