Just curious, are you not worried about taking a huge depreciation hit in a year or 2?

obviously normally a 2 year old car should be well under MSRP.
The warranty to me is worth its weight in gold, and it being a 2020 gives me the option of tuning it as well as no concern with the oil consumption issues popping up with the 6 port motor.

Edit - forgot to mention but this is also a 30th birthday present to myself and I plan on driving this thing until the wheels literally fall off. It's my dedicated daily car, life is too short to be driving an appliance for a daily and having a fun sports car on the weekend with the off chance you might be able to use it. I'd rather have an amazing daily driver and an appliance as a second vehicle if I need to make a Costco run or haul people around. Plus we have a Ram 1500 and a new Accord hybrid in the household as well so I'm not exactly screwed if I need more practicality.

I did something similar a few months ago. picked up an early tunable 2021 with ~500 miles for the same price $55,998, and paid an extra $1359 for a 5 year/100k mile service plan from CarMax. Plus DCU financed the car at 1.49%/65 months so no regrets picking up a used one.
Yeah I was incredibly surprised when I saw the MaxCare options, it's solely the reason why I considered used. I am 100% confident that we both got in when it was still being marked and treated as a Toyota and that once claims start against the warranty it'll skyrocket into the 5-6K range like BMW's and the coverage will max at 125K.

Whoever owned my vehicle prior had probably spent minimal time with the car as a possible daily driver since I discovered it still had all the protective plastic on the door sills and even on the screen. Plus the driver profile was named "MINE" and it had no BimmerCode changes at all.

The one I test drove was a 2020 with 24K miles and it had the full weather tech mats w/ GR supra badge swap, and full BimmerCode treatment.

Yea that makes sense if you keep it long term.

I also bought my supra when I turned 30 last year haha.

Update.

Secured a '20 3.0 Premium in Nitro Yellow with 2700~ miles on the odo, $55,998. $2,150 for the warranty for 5 years/150k miles. Just waiting for the title to arrive in the mail before CarMax can legally sell me the vehicle.

Paying MSRP for a 100% tunable car and with a warranty was a no brainer for me.
You should not buy the warranty for $2150 from Carmax. You can get the extended warranty straight from Toyota since the car is still under the 3yr warranty, you can directly from them. You can get a 8 year/75k miles warranty for $1150

This could just be a one off experience, but my brother bought a Carmax warranty before for his Audi S5. It was an absolute pain in the ass to get them to pay for the work. They kept pushing things off and denying claims.

To summarize:
  • immediate availability vs. new
  • if you get a 2020 or early 2021, no need for the ECU to go to Russia if you want to tune
  • chances that some useful mods like PPF & ceramic may have been done by the previous owner
  • the mods that come with the car are probably cheaper than you doing it yourself, but on the flip side, you're taking on all the risk modding causes
  • chances are the break in period was done so you can push the car from day 1
Fingers crossed I can find a white launch edition at a steal once the manual drops.

What do you consider “at a steal” lol the manuals will be in short supply and people aren’t just going to drop the value of their Supra because a few manuals are in the wild lol

Yeah, I agree. The availability of an MT isn't going to change anything relating to the AT for many many many years.
