I waited 3 months to get my 2020 GR Supra. It was the first one sold in my area and was a big hit at the next Cars and Coffee. Despite it being a really great looking car (black) and pretty darn fast (my Cadillac is faster), I found it kind of boring and not at all engaging to drive. Then Toyota announced the manual transmission was coming. After nearly 3 years, I sold the ‘20 model with only about 900 miles on the clock. I called around and found a dealer that had an A91-MT allocation and put down a deposit immediately. Since it’s a limited edition of what I expect to be a limited number of manual transmission Supras, I have little doubt it will be collectible moving forward. Should be here by the end of October if I’m lucky. Hooray for me!

That means Toyota lied again because they themselves said it's a modified box for improved feel. Most critics say it feels notchy and precise but I've yet to hear it feels rubbery.

If you watch the Everyday Driver review(around the 2 minute mark) they said they were hoping it wasn't going to feel like your typical rubbery feeling BMW box and they are happy to report it doesn't. Now these guys have driven tons of cars and many of them BMW.
I mean, feel is subjective for sure, but you're also referring to the same dudes who couldn't understand throttle mapping differences when comparing a BRZ vs GR86 and stated that the intersection of the HP and Torque curves were crossing at different points between the two. That's pretty fucking embarrassing for guys that consider themselves automotive journalists 😂

I wouldn't say they lied. It's modified and it feels better. Just not much modification and not a lot better.

I find it weird that, for the first time... Ever... I'm preferring my AT to a MT.
I've never, ever, EVER been into AT cars other than in my commuter. But this one is really good.
Weird feeling, indeed...
The AT in the Supra is damn impressive for sure. I've been driving mine for almost 3 years now. I'm trading for the A91-MT knowing that I'm going to lose a few tenths of a second, but I'm looking forward to the "engagement". A costly upgrade ... hope it's worth it!

Might be a long shot but how did you get invited to test drive the new MT supra?

Could be. Every manual car i owned had some issue with it but nearly every automatic has been fine.
Yeah but once it's fixed, it stays fixed. I had a synchro changed in the Type R shortly after it was delivered and the stock box (and clutch) have gone nearly 200,000km without a single problem.

Yeah, drove it for long while. It's your typical rubbery BMW ZF box. Gates are hard to get into, especially if you're trying to shift quickly.
Funnily enough, this is the most (and near only) negative mention of the MT I have seen.. and I have watched almost every video and read every online review so far.

Coming from a Honda box, this worries me a little but your opinion seems to be going against the tide at this point.

Can't beat a MT for that. The AT is shaving previous tenths off my lap times also.. Hopefully they add up to a new PB.
This is the car I get my "engagement" from until it sells. It also holds my PB time at the local track. I have another MT car that will be my next "engagement" car. It's not a race car, but it feels amazing to drive.
TLDR: I totally agree with why you are trading. 😂

Are there no aftermarket improvements to help with shift feel in the bmw market?

I drove a GR86 immediately before so I had a baseline. Really don't understand how anyone could say it felt mechanical with that car right next it. It's not bad, I'd certainly drive it over an auto, but it's a GS6, and even uses an off the shelf shifter. I'm not sure why people would think it's magically different now.

My YouTube channel mostly. But I've also had a long standing relationship with Toyota, which I'm very grateful for.

Are there no aftermarket improvements to help with shift feel in the bmw market?
There absolutely are! And the Supra would be perfect with an aftermarket shifter setup.

I honestly don't think that's going to be a problem. Besides, they're done their research.. don't worry about that.

People talk a good game on the internet but reality is often a different story. There's a reason most manufacturers aren't so big on manuals like say in the 90's or prior.

I know what you mean but I waited until the manual was announced and then I ordered it. I'm sure I'm not alone.
