Hey! Yea, with my Evo, I pulled a lot from the OBD2 port but we had more knowledge of the ECU addresses and used a whole different mode.

On the Supra, thus far most of the good track data bits are direct from CAN, with the added bonus that CAN is much faster than the normal OBD2 logging.

I have looked at SoloStorm but it's pretty expensive and I've already spent a good amount on different things with the Supra so far. I might try it out in the future though!
Fair enough, thank you for making this thread!

I'm kind of lazy and don't feel like trying to wire directly into the CAN, especially considering how frequently I change cars. I'll keep my fingers crossed that someone can figure out the formula to pull steering angle and brake pressure from OBD2 :D

Yea I get it, however, with the posi taps, it takes under 10 minutes including pulling the two interior bits out. The actual tapping part takes under a minute.

I'm going to be doing some more sleuthing over the winter because I want to find more specific logging items like knock, etc.

Stay tuned.

Dude. Fantastic write-up. Thanks for putting this together. Want to get something like this in the car before track season next year. Also, <cries in JB4>. I guess I'll tap at the ECU.

Just to be clear, anywhere you tap the CAN network won't interfere with the JB4. At the ECU, or the passenger kick panel, doesn't matter.

What you can't do is split at the OBD2 port.

Thanks for the clarification. There's definitely been some confusion on here about this in the past.

Having issues getting this to work. I am thinking maybe its my Baud rate settings? What do you have it set to?

Id be willing to PAY the OP to do this to my track car... lol looks amazing as I dive into it.

Still hesitant to pull trigger on a Catalyst. Not sure its worth $900 except for the super cool-ness

Glad we figured out on the RaceCapture discord server!

Bump. It looks like the spreadsheet has been updated for OBDII? There now appears to be formulas for the following:

Channel Name
Accelerator Pedal
Throttle Position (RAW)
Brake
Steering
RPM
Gear
Coolant Temp
Oil Temp
Ambient Temp
Wheel Speed
Wheel Speed - Left Rear
Wheel Speed - Right Rear
Wheel Speed - Left Front
Wheel Speed - Right Front
Brake Pressure - Front
Brake Pressure - Rear
Engine Torque (RAW)
Gearbox Torque (RAW)
Maximum RPM
Fuel Range
Fuel Used
Vehicle Acceleration - X Axis
Vehicle Acceleration - Y Axis
Vehicle Yaw Rate

Edit: Ignore the table above that's for CAN not OBDII. Reading > Me

Yup, I updated it. It's just the normal generic OBD2 stuff. Semi-useful. Boost, timing, afr, etc.

The brake pressure, wheel speed, acceleration stuff is on CAN.

You can see a bunch of these in this log from the track last year: https://datazap.me/u/razorlab/lrp102222lastsession?log=0&data=43

Thanks razorlab! All I care about is throttle position, brake (%) and steering (degrees). So if I can get that info from OBDII I'm happy :D
That would be some basic but also solid and useful info. I could shave some decent time with those.

That in combination with the GPS data and accelerometers built into the Race Capture is plenty of data. At least for autocross where you only have a small amount of time in between runs and the courses are never the same.

Haven't found that on OBD2 yet. I do know the BM3 logger can get overall brake pressure, and TPS over OBD2. I don't think you need to have a BM3 tune to log them either.

At some point I need to sniff the port and find the details of all these items. Hard to find the time.

Ooops, I'm an idiot, I was looking at the wrong tab in the spreadsheet ?
