And that is what I call flawed logic. Let’s say they did develop their own engine, imagine the possibilities they would have to develop other cars to use that same engine. 4 door Supra version? Yes please! They could inject so much excitement and new models that would do extremely well and compete with other brands that customers normally don’t cross shop. Toyota is gearing up to bring their regular line up of vehicles to date with current standards. They're preparing to upgrade their trucks and other established vehicles. The fact that they're even providing us with a sports car of this caliber on the side is a gift in and of itself. Where is the logic in building an in house i6 for one vehicle that'll sell maybe 10000 units? They're not going to use the engine in any other car. Of course they had to collaborate.
According to Toyota they worked on it.. according to BMW CD, Toyota ordered a HT sports coupe. Motor is BMW, interior is BMW, made in Europe, electronics is BMW.The big car debate purchase coming up this spring is between the MKV and the GTR. And sadly....the biggest determining factor for the MKV being the winner.....is the price point it comes in at.....not the performance, not the looks, not the tech, not the interior....which honestly is sad when you think about it. The winning factor shouldn't be "how much money can I save". Granted, I also follow that statement by saying the money I save will go towards aftermarket modifications, wheels, etc.
In regards to a proper halo car, and purchasing something that the company themselves put together....slow clap for the GTR indeed.
On the other side it also depends how the collaboration process happened. Is it in fact a "Toyota told us what they want and we built it" or is it more the side of "we put both our companies engineers to the test" and worked out a true 100% collaboration that ended with a car neither company would have made independently.....this is the question and thought process that has me holding out for the spring and MKV first drives rather than just buying a GTR right now.

I wanted to like this so so so badly but from everything that I've heard, it's just another meh BMW. Already being the current owner of two wildly disappointing meh BMWs, I don't need to add a third. This isn't a Supra, is at the very most a rebadged and slightly tuned Z4. Hell, if i wanted to spend 60k on a heavy BMW, I'd go for the M2 Comp and get a manual at least.
I keep being told "but it's cheaper andand you be able to modify it and make much more power and make it much more capable of a car! With the right mods and tuning, you'll be able to make it just as good of a track car as the GT-R!
