Does the boot just "snap out" at the bottom?

Yeah it's all one piece with the boot being stapled and glued around the plastic bezel that clips in place. The staples barely stick out so whenever I replace the boot it should be relatively easy. I can't even get a hit when searching with the PN's on the sticker so if anyone knows how to get a hold of the OEM plastic bezel I would really appreciate it. I'm 3D printing one I found online and hoping it works but would rather have an OEM piece. All I have is PLA plastic and that won't be as strong.

They need something like this. I am sure they could make a custom one.

Miata Boot

I thought the Toyota (BMW) design is kinda weird as it being all "one piece". I wonder what the Z4 manual boot/shifter looks like?

This looks better, IMO:

BMW Shifter

Many BMW shifters and boots are one piece unfortunately. I'm gonna be getting a collar too so my end result should be something similar to this when reusing the OEM boot. The idea is that Racseng will be able to offer something that customers can adapt by reusing the OEM boot. There seems to be enough material that I shouldn't feel like the boot is tugging on the knob during shifting but that is also something that I will be validating for them.

I know there is a manual Z4 20i in Europe, wonder if that shifter can be sourced to the US.

Can someone with the standard leather shift knob able to pull the boot up and snap a pic of the part number tag like shown below on the Alcantara shift boot?

That was the first thing I looked into but it does not appear to be the same shape unfortunately. Even from the shift boot bracket models I was able to find online none match so I will probably have to end up replicating it myself so that I can 3D print it.

I reached out to a friend who has a premium to see if he would do it but haven't heard back. Might be a bit hesitant to do it thinking something might break ?

Installed the Black Forest Industries Air GS2 knob today.

I reused the factory shift boot. You can see where I cut it at on the knob. If you are going to reuse the factory boot, I would try and cut at the same location. All shifts are good except for 6th is a little taught on the boot. It is not going to cause any issues but if I had any less of the boot it may have.

I haven't driven with it yet. Quality feels excellent, happy with the look and feel of it so far.

I might have to cut the boot where you did. Picture is a bit crappy but the adapter for the Raceseng knobs would have the boot sitting about 1 inch higher than it does on the OEM knob. Luckily the collar is a bit wide so even if there had to be a small gap between it and the boot it shouldn't be noticeable.

How much taller do some of these aftermarket knobs sit compared to the stock knob?

I’m honestly surprised how much I like the Oem knob, love the weighted feel and the Alcnatara. Maybe eventually I’ll mess with it tho!

About 1 inch. See my previous post if you want to look at where they roughly sit when using the shift lever as reference.
