If you want a real sports car, buy the Supra.

If you want a heavy 2+2 coupe that actually knows it a BMW, buy the M2.

I have family that works down at the SLP Plant in Mexico that are always saying how the M2 will smoke my Supra, etc....makes me laugh. You can't really modify 500lbs out of a car without impacting how it performs as a street car.

Honestly, I'd consider it but it's ugly.

I looked at the previous M2 when Supra shopping in 2019. The M2 just didn't do it for me. I have a former friend that let me drive his M2 Comp and while it was a great experience, it just didn't grab my heart and make me want one. The Supra just felt more special to me. But go with what you're feeling. If the M2 calls to you, then maybe that's where you belong. Life is too short to not be happy with your car.

I am personally waiting to see reviews before making a decision, but here’s my initial thoughts.

I have a hard time with the exterior styling, while I don’t hate it, I struggle with the previous generation being MUCH better looking. The interior is kind of tricky for me to compare, while I like the extra options for seating and trim colours and personality, I’m not one of those people that think bigger screens and less buttons are an improvement. The upgraded stereo will likely be better, but again that not high on my list. The option of a sunroof, yeah I don’t really care for those either.
Here in Canada the price difference if you add the upgraded package for the better stereo, it’ll be a solid $10k more. If you want an extended warranty, that’s twice the cost. You do get free maintenance for 3 years with the BMW, but service costs are less at a Toyota dealer than BMW. Insurance cost is also less.

I am betting the M2 will be slightly faster but that could easily be remedied with upgraded tires and a tune with the Supra and that won’t cost you $10k.

I’m a manual transmission lover, so while we don’t know what the next M2’s will feel like, if it’s anything like all past BMW manuals it won’t be as good as the Supra for feel.

The Supra is built in Europe, the M2 in Mexico. That could make a difference or it might not. I had a Golf R that was made in Germany and then a GLI after made in Mexico, both on the MQB platform, same engines, similar transmissions, etc. The Golf R was built better, it just was.

The back seat in the M2 while present will only be okay for young children, it’s much smaller than last generation M2. The cargo space will be bigger, but that’s low on priority list for a sports car.

Basically what I’m saying is the next M2 will have to be reviewed as a sizeable upgrade over the previous M2 for me to even consider it.

Yes I had sold my Supra 2.0 model some time ago. I really enjoyed my Supra. The Supra is a superb sportscar. The 2.0 is a nicely overlooked 'secret' of a sportscar. Too much focus on power/torque etc. The 2.0 has a nice balance and a touch of lower tech better driving vibe vs the 3.0 models. No power seats etc. If one keeps their foot out of the boost lol - some rewarding fuel economy is never a bad thing. We discussed having a 3.0 here in Germany but the M2 is interesting and ordering early paid off. So we shall give it a go.

I will post here about it. I really like this forum.. Full of sportscar happy people unlike other forums. That includes some BMW forums as well. I have had many BMW's - the forums are not as good as the cars LOL! :)
Oh hell you didn't even own the REAL supra you had the baby supra, I would have sold it too.

Funny made in the same factory as the 'real' one.............your wanky size wont increase with torque or hp. Your still just a small wanky punk. You worry about tickets on the freeway - I worry if I will hit the limiter on the Autobahn lol. Suck that punk!

This ☝? post nailed my thoughts exactly! I love the M2 but she’s just too heavy out of the box ?

Bro nobody should buy the weak 4cyl version of any sports car come on man. You can't even say what a REAL supra even drives like. That's like if they made a affordable 4cyl 200hp 911 turbo and saying I own a 911 but it's kind of boring.....yeah because you really don't own a 911!!! Nothing personal kid just stating the facts.

Why would anyone buy a 6 cylinder (they used to say back in the day)? I’m thinking why would anyone buy an electric? Heavy as ?… then decades go by and I’ll be damned. The 6 cylinder is the new V8 and someday those electrics will maybe even scoot around a track without tipping over ?
