Let me add a few:

That article's pretty honestly written. Like it says the interior's all BMW and nothing but BMW, except for the instrument panel, that that part is all Toyota. They gave the digital panel an analog feel, unlike what BMW did.

It also says how the car doesn't comply with Toyota's in house criteria that all Toyota cars have to follow, like how low it is and how thick the door sills are for rigidity. It breaks Toyota's own rules for sake of performance.

Price is within reach of 86 owners, if they tried hard.

Toyota told BMW, mileage be damned. Just focus on performance.

Driving position was sunken not only for lower center of gravity but to give the entire position a sports car like feel, along with the positioning of the steering wheel and the gear lever. Can I read between the lines that they positioned it ideally for a manual gear shift lever??

Stability control can be completely turned off. Although even with it on, it's not very intrusive.

Final specs are not yet set in stone, and yes, it said that even with the 2 liter turbo, the torque was ample and that Tada also tested the MT model the other day.

Anyway, that's what I have from memory.

I have a hard time believing this part or at least BMW half-assed it. 340/382 for the EU and US spec, respectively, doesn't sound like they went all out. Knowing Toyota and their non-economic car strategy, they actually do dump a ton of fuel for reliability over mileage/performance, mostly with trucks and SUVs. From my experience the 5.7 V8 stock runs an AFR of low 11 to high 10 at full throttle and extremely low timing for an NA engine. You can run a blower or a turbo at 6 psi without touching the tune.

I'm pretty confident there will be a ton of room to increase performance and mileage, leaner is always meaner... until you blow a hole through your block :D

So if we want the best MKV we should wait 'till the end of it's production cycle

Hopefully it would get a manual transmission & 400-500hp, what it should have had from launch.
I believe he's referring to "Porsche-like" improvements

They make changes to every car year to year, albeit many times nothing publically disclosed, but the fact that Tada made a specific point to say that is a little concerning.

At the same time, I think both R35 GTR chiefs said something similar so perhaps not much to worry about.

Probably going to just be small things here and there that make little difference overall, especially with the aftermarket.

Certainly hope this means we can get Android Auto in a future update

I hope it does go like the R35, thing went from 480 to 530 to 550 to 570 to 600 with the latest nismo.

BMW will probably be the last to adapt AA. I hope we get an aftermarket option as they're usually better in everyway.

I clearly recall Tada made the same claim about the GT86/FR-S, that it was going to be improved incrementally every year - that never really happened, there was only one substantive update a few years ago along with the cosmetic refresh, and even that was relatively minor.

hmm? they did improve small things each model year, specifically with the suspension & interior bits. what else were you expecting? the only disappointed folks were those crying about power..

Toyota Supra 2019: manual transmission still on the cards

Rumours of an auto-only Toyota Supra future may be greatly exaggerated, with the carā€™s chief engineer Tetsuya Tada excitedly telling CarsGuide heā€™s driven a six-speed manual pre-production example in Europe.

Tada-san also revealed that the much-anticipated coupe will definitely launch with the same eight-speed ZF torque-converter automatic transmission hardware as used by BMW but was keen to stress that it will be running a bespoke Toyota software tune to distinguish it.

ā€œThere have been many requests for these things, manual, dual-clutchā€ he said. ā€œIt will launch just with the eight-speedā€ but conceded ā€œmore [transmission] versionsā€ could follow if there's enough demand.

The new ā€˜A90ā€™ Supra will run two BMW-sourced powerplants, including the B58 turbocharged inline-six that was chosen partly so the Supra can remain true to its straight-six roots. Actual outputs are yet to be confirmed, but Toyota has stated minimums of 220kW/450Nm ahead of launch, teamed with a 50:50 weight distribution.

In terms of total dimensions the Supra is a size-up from the 86, but it will actually have a shorter wheelbase. This has limited the rear-drive Supra to just two seats. It will also score Brembo brakes and an electronically actuated active rear differential.

The Supra was recently in Australia undergoing evaluation testing. Australian input will make it to the final global tune of the car.

The much-hyped coupe will finally shed its camouflage in January during the Detroit motor show.
