The problem is the A90 is set to perform the same as a A80. Similar power, similar weight, similar performance metrics, its not progress, just a reboot.

So why spend 55k on an A90 for performance, when it doesnt match that from a reliable bpu a80, nor looks half as good, and almost certainly wont be as tunable, nor credible for years?

Right now an a80 is a far better drivers choice. Far less cost, for far more performance, with 25 years of tuning knowledge for insane tunability. It cleary offers a far more fun and rewarding experience.

Why? - The a80 doesn't have fake vents, nor fake engine sounds from speakers, it has advantages of a driver focused wrap around cockpit, that cool front and rear spoiler, backseats, a real manual gearbox, an insanely tough non interference engine, with proven high end reliability thats simple to mod too much higher HP, ...and so much more, all in a vast customisation and supporting product industry.

I dont see any modified A90's being able to compete with the top end A80's for at least 10 years with all that.

If you have to choose between the two for a blast around the nurburgring, or just a driving holiday, surely its an A80. Its just going to be the all round more enjoyable car in everway.
Agree. You could have just said..."It will never be ICONIC like the A80"

What Will MKIV Owners Do?

Horribly, I think most MKIV owners will perform seppuku after receiving their first glance of the mighty A90. Much like how the roadside ditches in America were filled with lifeless corpses after Ford made the change from the Fox platform to the SN95. Don't even get me started on the LT-1 to LS1 transition. Pure carnage.

I think the A80 and A90 will drive and perform quite differently.

And i believe the A90 will be vastly superior

The A90 will outperform the A80 in every performance metric. For less money.

From what we know, with conservative estimates:

And since I was bored, stock B58 (340i) versus a stock manual 2JZ GTE Supra which dyno around 290whp.
B58 is just better everywhere, there is a huge area under the curve difference.
This engine, on a lighter car, with shorter gear ratios, it won´t be even close stock. As for modded vs modded, we will have to wait.

See I stopped playing the tuning game years ago and just grabbed one of these below. I'm just worried early adopters, the people that TRULY love the Supra are going to get screwed. They are going to buy one in year one or two and then Toyota is going to bring out the more powerful one people wanted all along.
Isn't that what Dodge did with the Challenger???

The Challenger 5.7 Hemi came out and everyone and their mother bought one thinking it was going to be the next Cuda. Then, a 6.2L Challenger Scat Pack came out not long after, and everyone who got the 5.7 felt screwed over. Then, the Hellcat came out...that drove the 6.2L Scat Pack guys nuts. Then, the Demon came out, and the Hellcat guys started to heavily drink and beat their wives. Phew....is there more? Oh yeah, then the Hellcat Redeye came out with Demon performance for Hellcat money....well that just caused a traffic jam on the Goldengate Bridge for all Demon owners who were taking turns jumping. Dodge has been squeezing the Challenger brand forever....but, people are still buying so they keep on making more extreme versions. Btw, have you seen the Hellaphant?

I too initially thought it was stupid to release the top tier car later....but the more I look at the industry trend, the more its apparent this is how the top tier cars are born. First you introduce a legend (Supra, Challenger, Shelby, etc...) in base and mid-level trims, then you make a shit load of money from them. Then, you proceed to making more extreme versions of that car because now you have budgeting for it. It use to be that car makers had enough money to make base and extreme versions of a sports car. However, nowadays, it's it's different....and sports car divisions in a car company have to budget to improve a specific platform (i.e., LandCruisers get better because of their consistent profits towards the next iteration, etc...).

The serialized cars (as im told) are not going to be for everyone....but any hardcore Supra enthusiast will drool over one....as im told. ;)

LOL! They surely must have learnt from master marketers at Porsche... they sell 26 versions of the same car (911). Starting at USD 91.000 for the basic Carrera, and going up to 800.000 (GT2-based 935) with several "limited editions" included. Surely Toyota can manage to sell an interesting range... serialized or not.

Just like Taco Bell continually recombines the same seven ingredients to produce "new" menu items.

Of course, who can forget Porsche!

Like ive said before, Toyota will want to get the MKV Supra in everyone's hands....they want anyone who is remotely thinking of getting a sports car to consider the MKV Supra. As such, they will have various trims priced accordingly to get a MKV Supra in everyone's hands. For the purists, the car aficionados....they will have a special car for them. The problem for me (at least) is the pricing...because the Supra I want, will surely be that special car along with special pricing im sure :fear:.

I didn’t think so initially, but now I am confident it will be a far superior car. Just like the R35 is far superior to the R34.
