Yes, they should totally replicate a sales flop that only became relevant to the world after a shitty street racer movie and gave Toyota even more reason to abandon sports cars.

I think targeting a lower price bracket and more volume was the right call. But as you say, we shall see.
Blame the 90's SUV market shift and tree huggers for the death of the JDM Legends. Japan brought their A game.

So you consider this a lower price bracket even though it's priced similar to the previous gen during it's time?

.... didn't have a cookie this morning?
He makes a valid point. This car is Supra in name and number of cylinders only. Toyota will price it based on current market conditions. If they have a Cayman S/GTS beating car, they're not gonna price it cheaply. But if this can't compete with the upcoming 440i which has a similar engine, then they're gonna have a problem.
But brand snobs will be brand snobs. Nissan still suffers from that with the GTR.

Supra has a dozen different definitions though. Im sure my grandmother has a different definition of the name as she purchased her MK3 because it was a smooth ride and could remove the top

? 440i has a b58 as well

The GTR is no longer the performance bargain it was 10 years ago. People are more than willing to pay for a car if the price is right. The Stinger is another example of a performance bargain that people are willing to ignore the kia badge for the performance per dollar. If the Stinger crept up to $85k then we would be seeing the same happening there.

Yes the point I was making is that with the base Supra rumored to have 330hp at a cost of 52k, it would underperform a similar speced 440i which will most likely get the 382hp motor. Couple with the backseat and better looking interior and it's not exactly a good thing.

The GTR is 911 Turbo performance for 110k. It's not the 70k it started at but that's still great value. I drove the Stinger. It's fantastic, looks stunning and has received great reviews. It has a crappy interior and I doubt I would have pulled the trigger if I was in the sedan market. Do you know how well they're doing in terms of sales?

Edit: looks like they've sold 15k YTD. Compared to 10k for the Giulia, 72k for the Charger and 64k for the Chrysler 300.

The 440i doesnt have 382hp confirmed, the Supra doesnt have 330hp confirmed, and we dont know the supra price though so those figures actually mean nothing as of today.

We have opposite opinions on what nice means, It is nicer inside than its competition especially for its price.
Numbers mean nothing in this context because since we are talking niche cars

The 340i has 382hp confirmed. The 440i will not launch with less horsepower. Its pretty guaranteed that they're sharing all engines. We're discussing a thread whose premise is that there will be a base 6 cylinder model with 330hp at 52k. My comments are related to the discussion only.

I cannot argue your other point because beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and everyone is entitled to liking whatever they like. I'm not a fan of BMW interiors too much and I haven't seen an actual MKV interior so not much to be said there. From the parts drawings however, I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

The 382hp M440i is 2 years away in my opinion considering their pattern of model lifecycles. Until then the current 440i has a 4.8 and 4.9 0-60, for auto and manual respectively, and a curb weight of 3700lbs. Not exactly impressive for a car that isn't known to handle as well as it's little brother. This is why enthusiasts flock to the M240i/M2 instead

I agree, an interior aesthetics argument is moot

Nobody is going to pay over sticker for 340bhp and 1/4 mile of 12.8@112mph gentleman. Someone needs to go look up what a 40K Mustang GT puts up if there's confusion.

^if you genuinely believe that, then you're in for a shock. people do crazy things, and this still has a Supra badge on it. it's also not that slow btw...

now, the real question is for how long, but given how incredibly limited this car will be for all of 2019 and possibly into early 2020, it will be sought after by those that want the exclusivity.

Limited? This isn't a Porsche GT car or a BMW 1M. What makes you say it will be limited? It's gonna be built in the same factory as a Z4. Both the Supra and Z4 will be mass produced cars.
Limited relative to the market as a whole. As in many dealerships will have an allotment of zero.

From working at a Toyota dealership in the midwest our reps have told us to more or less expect one per dealership the first year. From talking to other dealers most are already spoken for by the owner or someone who works there. I know my owner already called dibs. So finding one that will actually be truly available the first year might be hard.

That is where the big mark ups will be seen. The owner will say if someone wants to pry it out of my hands, make it worth my time.

I'll use the US for example:

the A90 has a target of 12,000 cars per year at peak capacity, with only a fraction of that available in 2019. I suppose "limited" is relative, but that's not exactly my idea of mass produced when compared to other options.

The Z4 is a separate thing altogether and will apparently not suffer the same delays, but getting a Supra in general will be hard for at least a year.

Wow! So, you already know the specs and what it can do in the quarter mile? Mind if you can provide me with lotto numbers as well?
