I tried being a squeaky wheel but didn’t get the grease unfortunately.
I feel for you mate. I kicked and screamed and my dealer was like.. we'll see what we can do. So I began kicking and screaming with Toyota Australia. Boy, if you think the people at your dealer are idiots, wait till you talk to anyone on the Toyota Australia customer support line! It took multiple calls but eventually it got escalated to a point where someone called back and said something along the lines of it's not our usual process.. blah blah.. but they would not fit the plate.

As for the sales guy.. he was pretty good but he only took me seriously when I told him I'd defect the car if it had a front plate mounted to it.

Frustrating for sure. It's not like you are asking them to do something additional you're actually asking them to do less and they save the time.
It's that stupid Victorian delivery centre. Basically you have to get your car on some kind of do not molest list. At the time mine was delivered I discovered that a) not all Victorian dealers go through this centre (might no longeer be true) and b) dealers are very reluctant to contact/intervene with this centre's work.

The complete lack of effort was mind blowing.
Wait till you take her in for a service or warranty work. Nobody at these places has a fucking clue about our cars. It's like it was a BMW with a Toyota badge slapped on it just to reduce the sticker price. 💁‍♂️

Honestly, nothing surprises me any more when it comes to Toyota Australia.

Absolute shitshow.

Besides the warranty work, which is a whole other issue that needs revamping, is there any Toyota dealer that is good in Australia? I know the few positive stories are from the smallest dealers in the middle of nowhere here in the states. Myself included.

Point being, I don’t think it’s good anywhere. Toyota really should revamp the entire purchasing process. Keep it more straightforward and stringent for the dealerships. These dealerships have way too much control. It’d be cool if Toyota came out with their own dealerships to direct the brand and their name better. This completely just drags them into the mud and (here comes the cringe moment) makes me want to consider Tesla for their buying experience alone. Everyone loves it!

The other option, you can finally buy a low milage Supra and avoid the whole buying process mess.

Even though I think I'll go to a BMW specialist for servicing, I'd love to know if any decent dealer service departments exist.. particularly in Victoria.

I can't speak for the Toyota experience when buying a Toyota Toyota, but the Toyota Supra experience is shocking. The car just seems to bamboozle them - from the sales team right through to the service technicians.

It’d be cool if Toyota came out with their own dealerships to direct the brand and their name better.
Honda did this and shut down almost every dealer around the country, with the remaining ones moving to a set pricing model. Also, they did this during the pandemic and lots of people lost their jobs. I'll never buy a Honda again. Fuck 'em.

Toyota dealers here don't really mark-up Supras but they are absolutely clueless about the car. I know it sounded facetious but the fact that the Supra is a BMW in disguise goes some way to explain why they have absolutely no idea how to deal with the car. I'd bet real money dealers wish they didn't have to deal with the car!

Maybe the general Toyota buying/ownership experience is better.. but I couldn't say.

Unbelievable. Sorry to hear. I have forced my dealer to put it in the contract. He told me "it was in the notes" and "not to worry about it" because he "didn't want to have to redo the contract". I straight up refused to sign until he put it in there. The complete lack of effort was mind blowing. Hoping that at least I'll have some recourse in the contract if they stuff it up.

Good luck with the rest of the process
Just hope that the somehow don’t get amnesia, if they weren’t going to do anything about it I was ready to walk…but the thought of the 12 month wait

I was very lucky with my dealer. His words when I had the discussion were, ‘we don’t even use the bracket on our demo’s. Why would we wreck someone’s car. We just cable tie the dealer plate.’
Some guys on here have been very lucky not to get that ugly bracket installed
Nooo! Sorry to hear man. It is so frustrating reading that. Why is it so hard... it's nuts. I hope they do a good job for you mate... then it's just around the corner!

Thanks for the share <3
To make things worse they have my number plates and the rear bracket, i specifically told them that I’ve ordered a tow hook relocation kit and if it doesn’t come on time then I’ll just zip tie the number plate similar to what you did for your car

Tell me about it, now it’s costing them even more, when they should’ve just listened in the first place.

TBH I don’t know anyone that’s orders a supra that said they like that bracket so I don’t know why they keep installing them. They told me it was something to do with Victorian regulations but I don’t believe one bit

I've looked at the Victorian number plate Regs and there are options to comply apart from that thing they use. I looked up the regs because I was preparing for them to use that very excuse on me as well. Just caught up in the Muppet world and all the dealers are the same. I have current dealer experiences now with Kia, Mazda, Ford and Toyota. All the same I'm afraid.
Dealerships are geared to selling to " soccer moms" these days not enthusiasts that know their cars from a technical perspective and know what they want.

My Supra started leaking diff oil within my first 150km of break-in driving. It was leaking from a dodgy axle seal, as opposed to the casing itself (I’m not that mechanically minded, but it seemed believable from the photos I made the dealer take).

The turnaround for this warrantied repair was less than a calendar week, which I was pleased with. Anything more complex, I’m sure would take much longer for parts to be studied and ordered.

I’m at around 3700km now and the car has been fine (touch wood). Still dubious as to whether our cars get special treatment at the dealer service or not, and am surprised that the first service interval is rather late at 15,000km - I will probably request one earlier.

Regarding front bumper/no drill - I made the same repeated requests to my contacts, and it was delivered unmolested in that respect. The sales manager even installed the front and rear plates with me on the showroom floor - side mount to the front, and drilling two holes to my liking at the back.

Email from Toyota Aus yesterday. Car is currently being built so I guess that means it's been on the boat for a few weeks, lol.

By putting "an" in front of "I" I assume you mean an "I" instead of a "L", both being uppercase. If that is the case, he did not miss the "i". He misses nothing...

Where did you find this information was it on Vic roads?

Went in to see the car in person and boy does it look good, the dream is almost a reality fellas.

I got to say though, I was feeling down yesterday on my way back from work thinking about how they drilled into the frontend. 😂

Yea. Don't let it worry you. I want to make my own aluminium front plate bracket. Just need to get access to a car to take some measurements.
How long was your wait?

I got the tow hook relocation kit, been waiting for about 11 months almost 12. I got the same email as you on the 31st of august and once I got the email the sales person was able to give me a vin and a ship name about a week later.

Which colour and spec did you order?
