Hello- I’m hoping to get some feedback regarding this very loud noise on my ‘23 MT supra with 4K miles (status post a single oil change). This is the second time in one month that I’ve heard this really loud oscillating grinding metal sound. I plan on bringing this into the dealership, but was hoping to get some feedback from you folks! Please see attached, thanks.

Second that. Rock between the rotor and the shield.
Had that sound once too. Needed to take a long screwdriver and push on the shield to let the rock fall out.

Definitely a rock as others have said. It scared the living shit out of me the first time it happened. I think it happens to me like once a year

Happened to me too after some gravel was on the road. Just push the rotor shield back, and do it all the way around. Should drop out.

I had a rock from a gravel road wedge itself between the rotor and the wheel. By the time I stopped it had bored a channel around the entire wheel barrel. Sounded just like that. Crazy stuff.

Figured id add. I am officially a member of the something stuck between the rotor and shield club! Except it wasnt a rock lol. It was a large asphalt chunk somehow got in there. Bigger than a quarter. Holy hell the sound it made was horrendous. Not like a rock grind screech, more like a loud ear piercing whistling squeal. It had glazed over the asphalt (it was shinny when i removed it) and made the most horrendous noise lol. Thankfully easy fix

@MrNobody could you see the rock? When you say you pushed on the shield can you describe that more. @Stick45 was this your issue? I woke up to the exact sound and I also have a '23 MT (8K miles on mine) making be think this seems awfully coincidental LOL.

Just drive in reverse. It’ll fall out.

I did try that and also some short driving and braking. I guess I could try both again but I was worried that if it was something else I could cause damage.

The first time this happened to me none of the easy tricks people mention worked for me either. I had to use a metal wire to thread it in between the rotor and the shield, then pulled it in the direction the rock. Took some time to figure out where the rock was using my phone camera, but now I keep a metal wire in the car for when it happens again. Used it twice so far in 20k miles.

I've had it happen to me 3 times over the span of a year mostly due to the city not wanting to repave my ancient ass road but every time its happened after checking to make sure nothing is dragging I just keep driving and it stops after a painful min or two. My car is lowered so jacking it up is a pain in the ass and I don't got time for a little pebble.

Well that was a smart idea. I did some more driving and eventually it did come out. Really disconcerting when it is making the noise as everyone has said.
