So this update is for the Wifi not the Cell modem?
well, the modem can be 2.4 or five. Or normally most of them will utilize both.

Yeah but what about the 2.4g radiaton? 5g has less radiation.
Well, 5G is faster and less range and I don't know that it would be an issue in a car with 2.4 G, but I haven't really looked into it as far as the radiation.

The update is because the 3G network is completely shut down. We are not talking wireless internet signals but cellular. 4G & 5G networks are still active but the 3G towers are being shut down/disabled and improved. Subaru has a very similar issue right now because of the DCM module in some vehicle were not updated prior to the 3G network being disabled and causing extremely high parasitic drains due to the DCM hunting for a signal (I've seen drains as high as 140mah).

edit: The whole 3G network is gone &/or still being phased out to 4G LTE/5G

Interesting. I’m guessing the dealer gets paid and that’s why they are not acting shady?
Absolutely they do and even got Toyota to pay for a loaner for me.

No, you are conflating 5 GHz Wi-Fi and 5G cellular networks.

This update has nothing to do with 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. This update is about the cellular network. 5G cellular networks use various frequency bands between 600 MHz and 47 GHz, but they don't use 5 GHz.

It's a 2020 and I have both start in sport mode and start/stop memory working (starts in Sport with Start/Stop off)
Ah! That may be it - having the car coded to start in Sport Mode will simultaneously disable start/stop.

If you want to do an experiment (you know, for science) it would be interesting to code the car to start in Comfort and see if Start/Stop Memory or deactivation still works. I'm guessing it will not, but again, I would be quite glad to be wrong on this.

Whether or not you want to put in that effort is another question though!

I can do that, for science. :)

I am waiting on some wheel studs to replace the two that broke but I can try it after that!

You are correct sir. I just had Total right shoulder replacement yesterday so I may not be as clear as I should be, but I also won't be driving my car for a while sadly.

Yes I just had mine done yesterday at dealer and S18T-24-03-519 was installed (just checked my profile export).

So far I have noticed on my 2020 Premium 3.0 Auto:

Trans shifting seems smoother. Also the rev hang when shifting manually near redline is mostly gone. If you click a paddle while in Auto gate it will now upshift on its own at redline which is good and bad I guess. Manual gate will still hold gears.

Suspension in Normal seems more supple to me but have to drive more.

Stereo sounds better to me.

Next I will attempt to make all the Bimmercode changes and hopefully I'll still be able to turn start stop off. Will report back.
i’ve already shared all the -519 changes in the iStep thread. Start/Stop memory function doesn’t work

furthermore, i can report my head unit isn’t bricked. not sure what the toyota techs are doing wrong. perhaps not allowing the post-update process to finish. this itself took ~10 mins. to anyone worried about the service bulletin, you can do it yourself!

How do you do it yourself? On any of these updates a person should be able to download the software/firmware to do this, but they make it difficult.

Thanks! Is there a decoder for all the acronyms? I don't see suspension on there AVS?
