..because the GR Supra Concept was misleading and Toyota knows the production version looks taller and wouldn't have looked as aggressive for an early reveal. They slapped on a wide ass body kit that completely enlarged each wheelwell beyond their production size...easy to tell by looking at the height of the headlights and the top of the wheelwell.

Exactly, the widebody kit, bigger wheels, and drop were just playing tricks on people's eyes.

That would have been awesome for the 86, since it would benefit from the structure of the much more expensive Supra. I don't see that making the Supra a convincing proposal though, except maybe it would benefit from weight reduction. Better to be the lowest priced house on an expensive street than the highest priced house on a cheap street, if you see my analogy.
I get your analogy alright but I disagree with it. It's only an expensive street because BMW made it and it's going to be made by the same people who build the 5 series and G Wagon. Suspension and chassis wise, what we are getting isn't that more advanced than the 86. Worlds different interiors and power trains, but both of those could have been bespoke to the Supra. Yes the chassis is another generation newer and stiffer, but that could have been attained with Subaru and Toyota collaborating again. The best thing the Supra got out of this specific arrangement (besides an inline 6) is the e diff. I would have been perfectly happy with a turbo Toyota v6 and 8inch Torsen and minus 10 grand off the MSRP, plus Japanese reliability and heritage.

The FT-1 concept looks soooo good....it's amazing how the smallest subtle changes from the FT-1 to the MKV made such a drastic difference in appearance.

Also, the GTR is HUGE compared to majority of sports cars nowadays....and it still holds its spot as one of the best performing cars. Really an amazing engineering masterpiece. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

So thereā€™s the shopping list for anyone who wants to make their A90 look ā€˜betterā€™. Much like the A80, didnā€™t look all that but a body kit and some nice wheels transformed it.

Just saw a NISMO this morning and I'm surprised how much road the fenders take up

If Toyota did this on its own I reckon the car would cost 100k easily, if not, around 80-85k....

You really think they could build a car and sell it for 39k??? Lol :rofl:

Why not, Nissan does it? 29k for the base model 370z! If its sharing platforms with a 25k car and maybe a Lexus model thrown in to boot, why not? I'm curious what the margins are actually on this car. I wonder if Toyota is barely making anything on the base US models. 49k us is still pretty cheap for a beamer, but look at the price of the car as it's being sold in the rest of the world. It's only somewhat affordable in North America.

So, you are implying Toyota takes the Lexus LS500 models engine (80k+ car) and put it in the Supra with a completely new chassis made by Toyota and sell it for 29k or 39k?? Itā€™s not realistic at all.

Even with the collaboration with Subaru thereā€™s just no way that happens especially when the 86 and BRZ is in that price range. No offense to Subaru, they build great cars for the money but chassis engineering, Iā€™ll take bmw any day.

Since you think the A90 deserves a 370z pricetag and would have been worthy of one without the BMW collaboration, let's take a look at the 370z...

Base model 370z @ 29k
VQ37 rated at 332 HP and 270 lb-ft of Torque
(Similar HP, far less torque)
But let's see the 0-60 and 1/4 mile time to judge acceleration
0-60: 5.0 seconds; 1/4 mile: 13.6 seconds
Compared to other cars the 370z sits just right in the 30k segment; however, after spreadsheet numbers, its actual accelaeration and measureable performance is generously below the Supra coming in at a 4.1 sprint to 60 and a 12.9 1/4 mile...not to mention added tunability due to the turbo and forged components. Sorry, but the Z is in a different ballpark...
Even if you consider the Nismo...it's modest power and torque increase and price bump to $42k still puts it under the Supra at a prince deficit commensurate with the performance deficit.
In summary, they are both great cars in they're own price bracket! And it shows what some sound engineering will do. Similar HP but diff results due to differences in torque and chassis development!

I do understand how it may not be a bargain as it is in the US...but please, shine some light on the situation for us...how much is a 370z on your end?!
How much are competitors such as:
1. BMW M2 Competition
2. Porsche Cayman GTS
3. Alpine
4. Jaguar F-Type
...and any others you care to mention so we get a better understanding as to why you find the A90 so poorly priced.

I have read the 1/4 mile time is low 12 secs for the Supra.....not 12.9, as you stated. Where did you get this number? if you look at other cars that do 0-60 in 4-4.2 seconds, they are around 12.2-12.3 in the qtr mile. I expect the Supra to be there as well.

I thought I saw 12.9 somewhere but I could be wrong if youve seen otherwise...if it's lower than 12.9 it further supports the point I was trying to make in comparison to the Z! I apologize if I was wrong and it's in fact lower!

The pricing is simple. Put a 370z, 718s, Supra and some others round a track. Slowest is cheaper. Youā€™ll see why the Supra is priced to compete with the Porsche, not the z.

Itā€™s no coincidence that the dimensions, performance, price, etc match the Cayman!
