I've gotten a sarcastic-sounding "nice BMW" or "nice Bimmer" twice: once from a dude in the passenger side of a Pontiac Grand Am, once from a dude on a bicycle outside the government liquor store. ?
Best one yet: tonight I picked up my pizza at Domino's, and a guy rummaging through a dumpster in the parking lot poked his head out and asked "is that a BMW"? ?

15.5 inches to the edge of the hood will align the gurney flap of the racelouver vent with the rear edge of the rad cover plate. most folks are mounting the triple seven vent 18.5 inches back, but Albert @ RL says 2 inches behind the rear plane of the radiator stack is ideal. since the rad plate extends back 3.5 inches, this seems like a nice compromise.

this is the 30x9 version. there is also a 30x14 variant but albert says he doesn't really recommend that one much because it can make some hoods too floppy.

That's interesting, that is pretty darn close to where I mounted my 777 vent.

What about having vents on the exhaust side? Would it be better for heat dissipation or near the radiator is more important?

that's actually not a bad idea. i went with the center vent over the 3-piece because any asymmetry in my placement would drive me nuts (amirite @razorlab ?). But if i cut just ONE vent over the turbo, i don't need to worry about matching the other side. albert's data shows that more is pretty much always better in terms of reducing lift as well.

The main caveat is to stay away from the no-no zone (24 inches to the windshield).

it was either your thread or @theQuaybee's that i got the 18.5 number from. but i suppose there's really NOT that much space to play with either way.

I didn't want to touch the tarp/dropcloth until I was completely done with drilling and riveting, so unfortunately I didn't get the cool picture with the open hole. Just one with a bunch of metal shavings. ?
