Awesome! Mine came with it on the max setting, I'm guessing yours had it moved down a bit?
~ Mine was never on the max setting from the factory when purchased new. See below.

Yes there is indeed a firmware flashed onto its eeprom that's on the board. I noticed mine came with max setting and an extra chip on the side where other photos on the forum showed a resistor. They have sent a new unit that arrives on Monday and I will test and let everyone know how it goes again. Hoping to have no issues on the second.

Did you order the B58 version or the Supra specific version?

Since Burger Motorsports have a JB+/JB4 exchange program, it's very likely a lot of JB+ units that are sold as new are in fact second hand units that have been exchanged.

This might explain the failure rate and also the inconsistent "factory" settings.

I have AMS catted DP and JB+ and XHP Stage 3 trans tune car runs great on 93oct . Also I have a Verus hood vent to help with temps. No issues. Im wondering if running aftermarket manifold would improve anything ???

Supra Specific version, where your resistor is mine had another chip, this is after I lowered the dial:

Already had tried that and no difference, CEL and bad idle like the MAF was being cut off.

That would be kind of problematic, even though the price is low I still would expect a new unit. When mine arrives on Monday I'm not going to break it open and adjust. If it has issues again I'll call Burger Motorsports and get them to rectify it and give me one they know works.

It's not an unusual tactic these days - every time I see such an open return policy I consider it detrimental, rather than a benefit. Apple resells products in a refurbished store. You don't really think Burger throws out perfectly good JB+ units do you? ?

Also, break open is a little dramatic.. It's literally two perfectly accessible Philips head screws. The JB+ is designed to be opened and adjusted.

Simply mentioning that it didn't look or feel like an open return reused, it even seemed well seated into its case and everything and the screws had that feeling of being opened the first time since the factory. There was a well known issue with the chip being flashed with the wrong firmware.

OK, but what do you think Burger Motorsports does with the returned units?

I would bet a not insignificant amount of money that they simply re-case any that have physical marks (and maybe give them a quick diagnostic test) before shipping them straight back out to new customers.

Umm.. That was an issue that was resolved months ago. Kind of proves my point when you think things through. ?‍♂

I literally spoke with them and they explained their latest revision didn't have the correct firmware. Stop trying to infer things and be a know it all, you're simply wrong in this case, feel free to contact them yourself if you enjoy starting controversies ?

I just got the new one yesterday and it started with no issues or cel, going to do some more testing when the snow lets up here in the northeast before I tell burger motorsports to close the ticket out. Idle sounds a little meaner and the pops and bangs are more pronounced when i drove it around the block. Thanks to everyone on the forum to who gave me details on their setups.

You are correct, I was making an inference.. that's what we do when we have limited information.

Did you ask them what they do with the returned units? Do they go straight Into the bin? Do the recycle the boards and put them into new cases? Are they checked, reflashed and sold as new stock?

LMFAO.

Wanted to post an update to this thread, car is running great, drove it for over an hour. Did multiple pulls, torque lugged it, a/c on and off. Car feels great and smooth along the rev range, also lights the tires up way easier.

I'm getting conti extreme contact sport 02s installed tuesday and excited to see how the car puts the power down in warmer weather. Definitely worth $200 so far

Car feels perfect with JB+ and extreme contact sport 02s, noticeable difference and im a pip or two away from max. In the spring or summer I will turn it to max, but now this seems perfect.

Downpipe? When I had mine, car ran better when it was a few notches below max. Even with a downpipe.
