All launch models should have been at their selling dealer on July 22 if that is the date set by Toyota. Press releases stated other models would arrive as early as the end of August. Those models are now at dealers while the first 1500 launch models are still in transit. Launch models were supposed to be the first sold then non launch per press. Not sure why this is happening. Dealers that are farther away from ports should have been allocated first so they would get their cars by the date Toyota states. Dealers closer to ports would have less of a delay from port to dealer ship time. Looks like dealers near ports getting theirs while dealers that require longer transit time don’t have theirs. Makes no sense logistically.
Saw on some sticker prices from YouTube vids that some launch models didn’t even have a dealer address on them. Selling dealer was shown as a region and address was “show car”. Shipping 1500 cars to dealers by a set date Toyota released should not be this difficult.
I never thought they would "sell" the LEs first before shipping Premiums/Bases; logistically seems hard because some dealers might move their LE immediately while others (more than likely with huge mark-ups) sit for a while. I know the Car and Driver article stated this would be the process it just seems too hard to control.

Secondly --- the thread with the LE VINs --- there are 1544; are those 44 extra? Press? RND? Wondering how this is the case since they have numbered plates.

I don’t think SET or GST have the cf caps as available in their markets.

I just called Toyota corporate. They said, “All of the Launch Edition cars should have been at the dealers on Monday.”

When I explained my situation they called the distribution center and the dealership I am working with.

Same story: Car has left the holding area in Chicago, but we have no idea where it is or when it is supposed to be delivered. Geez.

After that my dealer immediately called me, he was polite and professional but, I don’t think he liked me calling corporate. And he said that corporate is just a call center who then reach out to the selling dealership for resolutions or to relay a problem that a customer is having.

Just booked a $600.00 plane ticket home for Sunday morning, hopefully it comes before then.

I called another dealership, they confirmed their LE was sold, also confirmed that it has not arrived.

These shenanigans cost me a week off of work and about 1k in travel expenses.

My understanding was that the launch models would ship to all dealers first then be followed by other models in September or late August.
Still have launch models in port and base/premium model at some dealers earlier then expected.

Wow..sorry to hear bud. I’m out $57 in airfare but can’t blame you for calling TMS.

Why would you fly to a dealership when the car isn't there yet???

Ya it's a mess. They have the dealers so in the dark with zero information. I feel bad for the dealers as well. Toyota corporate failed us.

I haven't done the research but I haven't seen a single Z4 around. Not on the roads, not in the Cars&Coffee's. Only one I saw was at the dealer. I will be visiting my dealer today, will check out to see if they even sold the one... being Michigan perhaps it's not selling much, so if anyone knows how Z4 is doing in other regions, I'd love to know.
BMW dealers here in my of Virginia can't keep them in stock. There were a half dozen in the area for sale when they first launched in the spring, but since then I haven't seen any in dealer stock. Everything that comes in is either a customer order or gets sold before it arrives. Part of this may be pent up demand, since the previous generation Z4 ended with the 2016 model year. I don't expect Z4 demand to stay strong forever.

I'm meeting with someone from BMW on Friday and will see if they have any details to share.

That is very unfortunate. You better hope that the car shows up tomorrow at the latest. My dealer said it takes a couple of days for the PDI process
