The 4 cylinder auto is more than a second faster in the quarter. CD ran an 11.7 in one. But don’t let the manuals are faster crowd know. 😉
It's still a car desperately trying to look like a supercar, while being in the price range of actually very quick and capable cars, while giving you the choice of a Toyota minivan engine, or a Mercedes base model sedan engine. Barf.

Full transparency-I am not interested in the car either. However, I just don’t see how we can not at least recognize it is a quite good looking vehicle (to most people) and with the 4 cylinder/auto powertrain IS a very quick and capable car. Your statement insinuates that an 11.7 quarter, 1.08g, and sub 150 feet stopping is not very quick and capable??

Swap the same dam motor in the evora in the mr2. Its been done 1000+ time. Drop in some cams and valve springs stock ecu 370whp 8000rpm
What does swapping engines and modding have to do with a discussion about a stock vehicle? We get it. You don’t like the car.

Really we exclusively talk about stock cars? 🤔. Crazy paying 85k to downgrade. Hey, it's your money ✌
In this particular thread, yes, we are talking about a stock car. I’m not even sure what we are discussing anymore. If you read my response above you’d see that I’m also not interested in this car. However, I can acknowledge that to most people (me included) it’s a damn good looking vehicle and I can also acknowledge if you select the 4 cylinder/auto combination the car is very quick and has outstanding cornering and braking performance. ✌

Me and some friends got in talk with a guy in a hotel bar in Hamburg once, that claimed he had owned several Lotus'es.

He, then, later asked if we wanted to gangb*ng his wife while he watched.

Every time I see a Lotus, this story always pops back into my head.

I'm not disagreeing with you but you do realize that with a slight tweak, most of this applies fairly well to the Supra, right?

In some ways, sure, but it's not even close to a 6-figure car. What I'm saying is that for $100K I'd rather get something that doesn't try to look like one of the major supercar brands while repurposing uninteresting engines from vastly less expensive vehicles (And, also, isn't a reliability nightmare...) :dunno:

Damn dude. You REALLY hate the Emira, lol. I don't know if I've ever seen someone hate a car so vehemently. Shit seems personal😂

I don't sense hatred in his comment at all. Maybe because I agree with him. Good car at 60-75k then it's a maybe. Reliability is crap despite running a Toyota engine and trans. Imagine without the Toyota part
I'm just joking (kinda). He just seems really passionate about not being a fan of the Emira.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to come off so hateful towards it. I do like the car, I just think that the price is ridiculous, and that there are vastly superior cars you can get for the money, and I can't understand going from the Supra to the Emira as you'd be jumping to a car that isn't even remotely close to $40K+ better than the Supra.

I would love to drive an Emira. Maybe I will in 5 years when they're worth less than my Supra 😂

I think smart buyers will lean toward a cayman 4.0 instead.

It's interesting because the Supra in isolation is reminiscent of a supercar. It's not. Not even close but as I like to put it, it looks like it has breakfast with supercars. But.. when the Supra is parked next to an Emira, the Supra looks cheap. Yes, the engine is arguably better but when compared to the Emira (inside and out), the design choices and body lines seem flat and the Supra really looks cheap and a pale imitation.

Now the Emira has the same problem but because of its price point, it is worse. Since the Emira commands near supercar money here, when it is parked next to a genuine supercar, it just looks stupid. It's the rich kid who just isn't cool. On the other hand, when the Supra sits next to a Ferrari, it's accepted because everyone knows this little guy is trying to punch above it's weight.. like an underdog. The Emira on the other hand looks great in isolation or with us peasants, but it just can't punch at its own level aesthetically.. And to make matters worse, it has a Toyota engine in it, lol. 💁‍♂️

Just a simple question here. I am NOT trying to start an argument. Is a $100,000 plus Boxter or Cayman GTS a “super car”? Are those cars $50,000 better than our cars? What about the $150,000 and up more track focused models? Those cars are 2 to 3 times more expensive than our Supras yet require Cup 2 tires to (in many cases barely if at all) perform any better. And the $100,000 Lotus Sport with the MB engine/auto performs as well if not better than those $100,000 P-car GTS models while arguably (in my opinion at least) looking better.
I just don’t see the Lotus trying to compete with exotics and supercars. I see it as competing with the GTS spec P-cars and maybe z51 Vettes. The price and performance is similar and in my eyes the Lotus looks better.
