The immigration thing is a complex issue and not simply race based. Victoria's population has ballooned and we have overtaken NSW for the first time. Some of the "immigrants" have come from interstate for example and this influx has not come with a corresponding increase in spending on infrastructure or policing, etc.

Also, comparing raw numbers to the rest of the world (or the US) is daft - Australia has always been safer (and in my opinion better in almost every way) by orders of magnitude than most other countries. And quite frankly, still is. While the raw numbers show how good we have it relative to the rest of the world, the percentage change highlights the trend and supports the argument that things are getting worse.

It's really not rocket science.

Anyway, I've said my peace and am done, lol. Don't believe me. Call me names. Manipulate the statistics. Disagree. Whatever.

I'm only going to share data for more overall context. No opinions.

It looks like Victoria has a population growth rebound from the decline during the strict covid lockdowns they had, some of the strictest and longest overall. 30,000 people left during that period. Which isn't even a blip compared to the decline of 305,000 in New York City during that exact same period, 48,000 of which were deaths because of Covid. So more people died from Covid in NYC than people that left Victoria during the same period, and the rebound since. To put that in more perspective, NYC has a population of over 8 million people, close to the 7 million of the state of Victoria. To be fair though, one is a city and one is a whole state.

All that said, in the past, I thought Victoria was a city in Australia for a long time so feel free to call me a dumb American. Although most people, even here in the USA, forget there is a whole state of New York, not just NYC. When I tell people I live in New York, they always think I live in NYC.

While I see what you are doing, it's worth noting that at the moment, Australia is absolutely cooked.

In the last few years we have had a massive spike in theft, carjackings, armed robberies, home invasions, knife crime and general unrest. We have gangs roaming the streets and kids are dying. Most of these offenders are under the age of 18, with many offending while already out on bail.

A few weeks ago two kids walking home near where I work were stabbed to death with machetes in broad daylight by a gang of kids.

This is all very new to us and as a nation we are struggling to come to terms with it. Culturally, this has never been part of our make-up and so conclusions are being drawn. And while some of these conclusions may be unsavory, not all of them are completely unfair or unwarranted.

On the money there, it's not race that's a problem. It's some interpretations of culture. Remember the cronulla riots? One of the instigations was another culture type saying crass things to scantily clad women....at the beach. Last two years alone in NSW sexual assault up 8.8% which is not insignificant.

I am not sure you know my type at all. I am the one paying all the taxes to prop up welfare here. I have lebanese friends but they dont automatically think "it's about them" and play victim. Dubai is a lovely city to visit and certainly not 3rd world but I only visited the tourist spots of most countries which never paints a full picture.

Do you follow islam or christianity out of Curiosity/ interest? ( I am atheist myself).

I've been blessed to travelled a lot and we are lucky to live here. ( the reason our violence is so low is because its next to impossible to obtain firearms but there are alarming trends).

So, in the 90s Melbourne don't have car jackings? No gangs? Get real. They just don't get reported as much in those days. People get murdered in the 90s during robbery which includes car theft.

The language you used in your post insinuated that the allegedly uprising of crime rate in Melbourne (youth crimes in particular), is related to immigrations. Now you are saying it's not immigration, it's caused by a cultural mismatched, which sounds to me is just saying we let in the wrong demographics of people which itself is racist.

Crimes are committed by all sorts of people with different backgrounds, values and upbringings. It is a deep social issue that has to be managed on different levels. One level would be school education; the other kevel would be reviewing the severity of the penalty in criminal law...etc. To simply pinpoint cultural mixed up as the cause of the uprises in crimes is very irresponsible and toxic.

You have opened up pandoras box there. Yes crimes are commited by all sorts of people. BUt if you want to look at figures that unfortunately paint a poor picture:

Just look at the murder rates per 100000 people in the USA by race and yet every time I have visited the states, i have been greeted by wonderful people of all ethnicity.

Here is what has influenced my opinion. I work with a LOT of people from a particular culture and have seen them lie, cheat and blatantly rip people off over the years when i was brought up to be honest and fair to people in business and respect other cultures but alas what I have seen has skewed me somewhat. Everyone is a result of their environment after all ( Gazans hate jews for instance)......another instance of an alarming trait that also influenced me is watching a police officer telling an innocent young woman to move along from out front of a mosque as she could cause civil unrest due to her western clothing in South West Sydney. ( the cops could not guarantee her safety)
